Sounds good Killcrazy, if only I was a tester and I could hear the thing in use! I think I feel a Duff beer coming on ...

There's always Just the Ticket by Maygay - there were a few Golden Tickets in that :)

I must say that it's quite refreshing to see how this project is being developed in such an open and transparent way, with bug tracking and so on all open for everyone to view.

Watch out! There's a SIG thief about...

Hey guys, just to say that I never had a Duff beer, but a can and a huge bottle of coke from our local takeaway! I was burping like a trouper lol. I was imitating the sounds on all of the Simpsons machines until about midnight! A toast to 2014, the year of the epoch! This is definitely not a carot on a stick situation like epée was, and now the June updeate thread has 4 pages even though we have just started in July! That really shows the progress that Killcrazy and you testers have put into this. I've just been in Tony's lesson again. He now has a Linnux-only talking 1-armed bandet game for screenreaders including sounds! It took him ages to find the sounds, but it's so realistic compared to MFME, almost like BFMulator, but obviously you pull the leaver (by pressing L). To collect credits, press C. That's it! I may still look for samples for him, so any suggestions would be welcome. We need maybe a big jackpot bell like in Los Vagus. I'd say the leaver sound is satisfactory, but I may use my toy fruit machine before it gets knackered as a sample.

could I kindly ask if the beta is a working emulator (ie complete layouts) or is it like the video, working alpha only and the rest is seemingly flashing lights on the matrix ?

thank you

Maybe the beta version is a pre-packaged emulator with hard coded layout with no editor.  At a guess.

^^ The version being tested is simply a debugger for the core with limited input and output (as you see in the video).  All current testing is just play-testing of the machines to find issues with the emulated hardware.  It seems to be going reasonably well so far :)

The next major release will be version 0.30 Alpha (christened the "Workshop").

Version 0.30 Alpha will feature:

Create and save projects

Add ROM sets to projects

Run and configure above ROM sets

The missing inputs for the core (DIL switches, refill key, open main door/cash door etc)

Load/save snapshots of a machine's RAM (is always reset at the moment)

ETA: mid August

Version 0.40 Alpha will feature:

Ability to create and add one or more layouts to a project (designers will be able to include multiple layouts in a project if they wish - eg one layout for £5 and one for a £25 version of a machine)

Basic tools to create a "classic" layout with lamps, and possibly the alpha

ETA: mid-late September

Version 0.50 Alpha will feature:

Reel editor

Adding reels to the layout

ETA: mid-late October

Version 0.60 Beta will feature:

Tools for a DX layout

ETA: late November

If the above all goes to plan then version 0.6X Beta will be the first public release on Friday 20th December 2013.

It will still be a Beta release at this stage as it's likely there will still be a chunk of missing functionality such as:

Probably no club machines

Probably no multiple alphas (machines that have a nudge/cash pot for example)

Probably no disc reels (only applies to 2 or 3 machines)

DX layouts may still be fairly basic

Sounds like we're going down the road of the emulator coders with a 'Christmas' release or update...

...makes you think doesn't it - are they all religious or a clone of each other! :p

Well done with it all by the way - even though I can't stand the Epoch tech and its fruit machines, I will not be using it, I know a vast majority of members here will have their knickers wagging come late December! ;)

Hey Killcrazy, are you still recording the videos? Mum would love to see the progress, and she'd like to see the simpsons machine running on it. I've showed her wipeout, duff beer guide and meltdown, though she didn't like the unsynchronized sound of meltdown. Has the synchronisity been sorted yet? If the hold sounds work, please include a lot of the cancel button! I love that sound although I can't understand who or what they're saying!

Hey Johnnyafc, soon to be my next friend on here. I suggest that "Coors" is what it's saying for the cancel button? Please can I have these sounds from your machine as a youtube video? I have free software I can convert it to an MP3 with. I want to use all 4 sounds together for my sound scheme when clearing the recycle bin as Coors isn't good enough. PS. The new bar is now officially open with 2 bits of bad news! No pool table, and unfortunately no fruities! it's too small! Nothing can be done now. In reply to my bud-wise-err, my favourite sound has got to be "yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeees!" from the simpsons, "Here's a clue for ya, Jack" from Homer's Meltdown and "most enjoyable" from Duff Beer Guide. Soon to be played on my laptop ... Have also checked out your videos of just you and the one of your son hahahaha sounds like me in an arcade but it's great when the machine's at home as you can refill it! I bet that's a hard job to do especially for someone like Spa who has so many of these, I mean, finding out what key is for which machine?
