I will be using this thread to issue regular builds of Project Amber. At times they will be nightly other times probably much reduced.

IT IS NOT FINISHED! IT ALSO WONT PLAY DOND, At present it is MPU4 only (that runs).

Just to be clear, builds can and will be buggy, and just because something works on day 1, it doesn't neccessailly mean it will work on day 2.
This is very much Work In Progress and it is released for the puposes of building up interest and to get feedback on what needs changing and for help with playtesting certain games.

There is no editor, but there is a peripherals viewer where you can see switches, reels, opto's, lamps, 7 segs, coin in, and the alpha. I wont release the source publicly until we get to a significant milestone in the emu, 32764 versions of subbtly different source code lying around will just not be a good idea, and given noone did anything with the last lot afaik, it seems a little pointless. However if you want a copy, pm me.

Those of you who want to see an emu take shape, this is your lucky day.

Feel free to ask questions etc.

The Initial version (Build 0.0.0.1) should run a lot of BWB games, If people would like to compile a list of runners and non runners.

You will need to change the coin delay to 120000 to stop the coin mech erroring. Dont forget to set up different extender boards as neccessary. You will notice its quite a lot like MFME in a lot of ways, this is mostly down to popular demand. I recommend a 2GHz processor to run and Dual Core is definately an advantage.

The BWB CHR AutoDetects to allow games to run but it does not autodetect the percentage tomfoolery yet. So expect games to play like test mode but without the cheats.

Ok then

Can't get it to load on Win XP or Win 7 (64 Bit) -- just get this message:

Component "COMDLG32.OCX" or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid

Even tried this -- http://windowsxp.mvps.org/comdlg32.htm

if it wont work like that you can put the file in the system32 folder and register it. To register it, goto run, type REGSVR32 "C:\Windows\System32\whateveritscalled.ocx"

For 64 Bit OS put it in the SYSWOW64 folder, not System32.

I'm getting the exact same error i've put the file in the system 32 folder, but don't know were to find the run tab to register it.I'm guessing windows vista is failing to run stuff again.

Edit:

In Vista / Win 7...

Open Start Menu, Search for CMD. When the icon appears right click it and select "Run as administrator".

Then in the command line window, type the regsvr command in there.

Once you are done it should give message saying it registered successfully. You can then close the window and run the emu. Unless you reinstall windows, you wont have to do this again (for that file).

Can't get it to load anything at all.
downloaded an MPU4 machine "BWB lazy_Bones 1280 wdx" --- went to load MPU4 and it didn't even recognise any file to load up
went to show ALL FILES, loaded GAM file -- but nothing happened.

That maybe because the gam file was created by mfme and guitars emu doesn't recognise it,you may need to load just the roms in it to get it to run roms,i can't have a look yet as i'm using the daughters lappy at the mo.

Aboslutely correct. At the moment there are no layouts, and MFME layouts wont work in this anyway. It is possible that at a alter date an MFME import might be added, but that is way into the future. Just load the program rom in and the machine should boot. Remember to set extender boards accordingly.

TBH Bert, the number of people who dont understand simple DOS commands is large. Thanks to old experience from 6.22 upwards us older (or at least more experienced) folks understand at least what the commands are saying, i.e. file direction. For example, c:\windows\system32\drivers means open the c drive, open the windows folder, open the system32 folder, open the drivers folder. Whilst this seems obvious to some, others just dont see it at all. Having DOS experience is so useful even today when you would have thought it was long over! Eeehhh these younguns....not like it was in my day lol (btw I always walked uphill in the snow for at least 3 miles no matter where I was going!). :D BTW Guitar, can I play DOND on this? (JK!)

Good news everyone, you have to play a chipped DOND!

More Help

1. Download http://windowsxp.mvp...ls/Comdlg32.zip or this if that one doesn't work http://www.fruit-emu...attach_id=11660 and save to Desktop.

2. Unzip the file using WinZip or any other utility.

3. Extract comdlg32.ocx to Windows\System32 folder.

4. Type the following command from Start, Run dialog:

regsvr32 %Systemroot%\System32\comdlg32.ocx

copy and paste ;)

Vista users, theres a helpful site here: http://www.winhelpon...dows-Vista.html
