#248417 StarGames - rip off!

Posted by wearecity on 28 February 2013 - 12:25 AM in Any Topic Chat

I avoid any casino, that have written that they require a copy of your card, passport and a recent utility bill for withdrawals.

They can accept the money without checking, so I don't see why they can't pay it out without needing checks either. Not comfortable with some company abroad holding so much details about me anyway, particularly the passport bit. I personally don't get any utility bills either, because I pay rent and some because I have online billing only. Also companies abroad are not subject to UK law, so it can be a bugger to make any sort of complaint.

Thankfully, some companies can verify you automatically if you are on the electoral role. Mainly those based in the UK or Channel Islands.

#250804 Happy 10th Anniversary Fruit-Emu

Indeed Happy Anniversary and well done for keeping the FME end up, when most of us, have just an odd mere glance at it's decaying state.

#254080 The Giving Up Machines (Or Gambling) For 2013 Thread!

Posted by wearecity on 15 July 2013 - 04:03 AM in Real Fruit Machines

Good luck to you guys trying to quit.

I know from years of trying since the threads started on fruit forums in 2009, how difficult it can be. I still gamble, but since 2009, have cleared all my debts, have 5 figure savings and gambling is now a bit of fun with money I can afford to spend in this way.

There are lots of ways, you can try to help yourself quit or like me, limit the amount you gamble each month.

If you've got debt, up the payments, so you leave yourself with just enough for the odd night out and/or a couple of treats. As soon as I was paid, I would use 90% of my spare money towards my debt, leaving myself with just enough to have the odd night out or treat.

If no debts, open a savings account, which has no hole in the wall card and you need to go to the bank to withdraw the money. Preferably one where you will lose interest if you don't give them a certain amount of notice. A few months of seeing the savings grow, was enough to make me realise just how much I was gambling away each month.

Another option, cards to a trusted relative or even friend, explain the situation and make sure they only give you money when you can prove what you are spending it on. Did this with my mum (I was 38 at the time), until I was comfortable I was through the worst of my addiction.

Let friends know, you are trying to quit and tell them. I told mine, it took a month or two for them to believe me, but once they did, I didn't want to lose face by playing in front of them.

If you can't quit altogether and online is your real addiction, set weekly or monthly limits on accounts. To up limits, usually takes a period of time, so normally the urge has gone. My current pattern is £20 a week on one site and £10 on another, I play different days of the week, so I have 2 mini sessions of gambling a week.

Keep posting to threads like this, or ones on popular sites such as moneysavingexpert or on Gamcare (a site which has a lot of frightening sad stories). This can help the togetherness feel and I know I felt gutted having to post when I slipped up and didn't want to have to post again I had slipped up . Also post as much as you want, every time you get an urge if necessary, sod it if others thinking you are whittling on.

If you were going to post on The Mecca, it must be an oldie.

I can't remember the name but is it a system 5 tech machine .

#256808 Looks like Fruit Forums could be going with DAD's soon too...

Posted by wearecity on 01 September 2013 - 10:17 AM in General FME Discussion

Fruit Forums, isn't going anywhere, enough people to put in to keep it going.

It may not have much FME talk, but it's a place where if MPU6 or all the DOND machines were released, would be the only place likely to have the balls to host them. Just like it was the only place originally to have the balls to host 9.4 and 10.1 and associated DX's.

Nice to see this emu still progressing.

Ease and stability of running and a better way to render layouts, would improve it no end IMO.

I think some of us still are, but many of us are now a lot older, so the discussion is pretty tame nowadays.

FF has been blamed for a lot of what has/went wrong with FME, but without it FME wouldn't have been half as much fun and I'm sure many layouts still wouldn't be available to play. Ultimately the fact it was used by many as a way of getting stuff out there, has been it's downfall.

Ooooooooooo, a machine I don't think I've ever seen or played. These spACE machines were a bit more exciting than the standard watch for my hidden treasure machines, such as Play it Again and Open The Box.

Looking forward to its release.

Wizard, most certainly wasn't ever going to release another version of MFME and so therefore, Guitar, from all those years ago, and killcrazy wouldn't really have had an existing member base to carry on.

This is the only bit I disagree with, I believe he was willing to release again. After things had settled down, he was indicating a further release, as per posts on the mecca.

But once the MAME lot got involved and insist on the code, he was finished. It of course was generally suggested that they were tipped off, by member/s of another forum than FF. Of course if the person/s plan was that it would make him say, sod it and release everything he had done, it backfired big time. Instead of him saying sod it and releasing everything he had, he shut up shop.

So FF hasn't been the complete cause of everything bad in FME.

Very pleased to read that Guitar.  :)

Will definitely take another look at it, after the update.

#256895 Sharks, Leechers and Chavs in Arcades

Far worse are those who utilise emptiers and clear the machine out by using bugs.

But then I can't say I wouldn't if I knew how to LMAO.

Been £20 - £40 down on at least 3 machines in my time, before I finally realise what has happened.

On sharking, I was playing in a pub with a mate on a QPS a good few years back, we did our dough and then some, about £200 through a £35 jackpot machine and the most it would offer was £10 - £20 wins and we thought we had put in enough for a jackpot at least.

Anyway, my mates wife said come on now lets get something to eat, afterwards. We both straight away turned around in unison and said, not in here. We knew that even the most stupid of players, who was watching for afar, would eventually take the jackpot out and then some.

#257039 best looking fruit machine artwork

Posted by wearecity on 04 September 2013 - 09:21 AM in Real Fruit Machines

The first machine I really took notice of was Barcrest MPU4 adders and ladders. I remember an arcade in Leicester Square London having 3 or 4 machines in a row. It was like, wow those machines look like they are worth playing with their gold coloured cabinets, really standing out.

It was like this was the next step up in fruit machines.

Played plenty of machines before but none of them stood out, like these did.

I used to find that if the subject matter of the machine interested me I'd have a go. Something like a footy based machine or a TV programme based machine.

Maygay Eastenders would get your attention, because every so often, it would talk, while in the attract mode.

I remember being in an arcade in Reading and me and this girl were playing the machines, next to us was an Eastenders machine. Suddenly Pat Butcher's voice came out of the Eastenders machine "got the time darling", made her jump and both of us laugh.

If you haven't heard it before, load up the machine in MFME and let it just go through the attract sequence and you'll hear it, along with some others.

Loved the original Maygay Cluedo (we still need a 1280 + sized crystal clear DX of it).

Another issue with FME and the internet as well, is that a lot of people have medical issues, which affect the way they act and sometimes it isn't obvious.

Several members on the forums, have medical issues and once you get to know some people, you realise why they are like they are sometimes.

I said on FF recently, actually meeting people or being on their Facebook/Twitter friends, does make you realise that we are all real people, with feelings and not just a username. It's all too easy to call someone a name on the internet (and I'm as guilty as the next person), that you wouldn't to their face.

It's a shame, there wasn't some sort of massive meet up, of say 100 + fme members in the past, getting together for a drink, a laugh and a chat about FME. I'm pretty sure, it would have helped no end, sort out many of the problems FME has had in the 13 + years it has been going for.

#257635 Scorpion 4 - Mental Money Monsters Wdx

Posted by wearecity on 11 September 2013 - 08:51 PM in New Releases

I like this type of machine, but  It's a shame that it is door open only.

The quality is very good/excellent in most parts, but a shame that the font used in the feature board makes it difficult to read the features.

As for lack of comments, well FME is no longer fresh or new, it sounds bad, but a DX of a machine for a tech we already have, is not going to set the world on fire. I mainly download 1280 + res DX's, just because I have for the past 10 years or more and don't want to miss out.

In a way we have been spoilt rotten, with the amount of release we have had. I'm sure if we only had say 100 releases for FME over the years and releases were only once, every month or so, we would all still be chomping at the bit for every new release. But because of what we already have, it's a case of, yeah that's great, but I prefer at least 300 other machines in my collection and a dozen or so in the tech that the new release is for.

Perhaps downloads could in some way be linked to the release thread and until at least the like button in the release thread is clicked or a comment made to the release thread, it can't be downloaded.

I think we will see more comments about layouts, when the Epoch emu comes out, because it will be a fresh tech, with machines that we haven't had access to yet.and people will be discussing tips for machines and perhaps the odd I remember playing this when I was in college, down the pub etc, comments.

Posted by wearecity on 11 September 2013 - 11:02 PM in New Releases

Totally pointless. The like button would just be a requirement for the download.... you may as well just look at the number of downloads you have and consider that your "thanks button" because it would be the exact same number.

Also who wants comments from people who are simply posting because it is compulsory for the download? Surely anyone who had contributed to a release would rather all the bullshit filtered out and read the genuine comments from people who are doing it out of choice. Else it's just completely meaningless words.

What would you suggest then?.

I loved the way it refused to die for so long lol.

Perhaps if FME, makes a real comeback so will Dad's.

As is common with me, with arcade first experiences, my first experience of this was at Butlins Bognor Regis.

I used to hate the girl, going on about her daddy.

#259465 Is there anything happening with Mame

Posted by wearecity on 16 October 2013 - 09:02 AM in General FME Discussion

Looks like a half quit to me, certainly far from a I'm 100% finished with Mame and will never work on it again stance.

MAME will certainly not die either, it is far to big a project, with tons of people involved, for that to happen.

As for FME in MAME, well I'd still much rather see emulators such as MFME and BFmulator than emulating fruit machines, than something as large as MAME.

Daryl, Mame is a piece of piss to set up and use 1/ Download emulator, 2/ Install it, 3/ Download a rom, 4/ Leave rom zipped up and put it in the roms folder in the installation directory 5/ Open mame and double click on game from list 6/ Play game.

I'm even more glad that I went to a Mac computer now - Windows for just a fruit machine emulator was a little obsessive back in the day!

LOL, my current laptop, purchased in Aug 2011, has a 1920*1080 screen res. I held off buying until I could find a 15" full hd screen laptop, because I didn't want to miss out on playing all FME layouts.

My choice of home PC screen back in the mid to late 2000's and my previous laptop screen were dictated by FME, as at the time, it was what I spent 99% of my time doing on my PC, when I wasn't surfing the net.

Home screen res will always be at least 1920*1080 now, as even basic cheapo screens can manage that. But not sure, I'll bother with a 1920*1080 laptop screen next time, unless the cost is negligible.
