It amazes me just how many cool emulators are out there - all free! Not just fruit machine emulators but arcade, home computer and console emulators too. I've been brought up with home computers, my first being the ZX81 (with 16K RAM pack held on back with elastic bands!), then onto the ZX Spectrum. Next, onto Commodore Amiga 500 and finally Amiga 1200 (this one I developed/programmed a Public Domain game for). In way of consoles, I started with PSone (after Ridge Racer blew me away), then PS2 (GTA games being my fav ;)), and now WII although this is mainly for my kids). These days I'm more at home playing games through emulators or playing GTA San Andreas on laptop.

You can play ZX81 and Spectrum games online (including others like Commodore C64, etc). With the Amiga, you have to download the emulator (but pay for kickstart ROM's) but all games are free.

I'm also a fan of MAME playing the likes of Outrun, Power Drift, Pang, Bubble Bobble, 1942 and many more.

So, apart from emulating Fruit Machines, do you guys use other emulators to relive those classic retro games? ;)

'eck. Forgot about SNES. I had been playing Zelda (A link to the past) using ZSNES. Got to Dark World but haven't played it for a few weeks now. Think I must be one of the few who never actually played Zelda before on the original SNES!

I still love playing Pinball Fantasies on WinUAE Amiga emulator, and i loved playing World championship Boxing manager on it too. The good old days of going round your mates with a pile of 3.5" floppy discs and seeing what games you could get wth Xcopy or Clone :)

Pinball Dreams/Fantasies/Illusions. All brilliant. Many a Monday evening years ago playing against my ol' man while me mum was at Bingo...

... then Amiga Slam Tilt came out. This is one classic I still keep playing when got the chance. Absolute cracker and ball physics are spot-on.

I did try a Pinball emulator last year but kept crashing. Anyone know of a good one?

Ah, yes lol. I even joined, what I thought was a legitimate Amiga club circulating PD discs and the like. Used to get home with about 30-odd discs, none of 'em marked and eagerly awaited to see what each one had on them. That's when I first encountered "cracked" commercial games - some not even released! I thought, shit, I'm a pirate. After a few more visits to club, either discs weren't loading or they consisted of porn (badly digitised and contained viruses), I stopped going and bought legitimate stuff instead. I was single back then and earning good money. Never used to think twice about saving money like now lol. Earned cash went on Amiga games, magazines, clothes, plenty of beer and nightclubs. ;)

That's the Amiga covered then. ;)

Nice to know there are still Amiga fans out there (hope so as the topic link above is from a few years back). Got rid of my A1200 about 2 years ago. Was just sitting there gathering dust. The only stuff I got left is the original discs for a game I did and some magazines that contained the review of it. How sad is that?

Admittedly, when it comes to use of emulators, out of all the ones I've tried, ZSNES and MFME are the easiest to use imo. Load game and away you go!

Count me in that bracket too, I've been playing since the 8bit version on the Nes appeared i even saw beta releases for the original zelda before it came out on the limited edition "GOLD" cartridges, i still own every Zelda game released and the platforms to support them and even used to read the Zelda cartoons produced in the Nintendo magazine.

Ooh going back a few years now though..

Also still awaiting the release of Skyward Sword next year...
