But it still would be nice!!!!

Perhaps it would, but I have yet to see a compelling emulation reason why MPU5 should get priority over something like System 5.

Speaking of emulation, what type of hardware do Astra machines run on and is there any documentation on the CPU, etc. out there?

Anyone know a good resource for general CPU info for older machines?

TIA,
Memia

Not sure of any of the machines, or their technology, however Electrocoin's Labyrinth was immensly entertaining for it's day - easily as good if not better than some of the Barcrest & JPM releases. Similarly, there were a few Ace machines from the early 80's (Before the flood of 'Hidden Treasures' sp.ACE machines) which compared favourably with machines like Barcrest's Fortune Numbers (One of the best machines ever in my opinion) and JPM's Reel Crazy etc. I suppose the major drawback with these other technologies is that because so few machines were actually sold, the chance of finding one intact and working is remote if not non-existant. Similarly, because so few were available, people do not remember them, which then means that the desire to emulate them is less. Please don't think that I am ungrateful - my hat goes off to those keen people who have written the emulators we do have. It is something that is way beyond my meagre knowledge and lets me indulge in a bit of heady nostalgia. People should stop questioning why we haven't got this or haven't got that and get enjoyment from those machines we do have access to. Machines like Labyrinth will probably just remain a fond memory.

I salute all those Layout designers who have spent hours and days developing the layouts we already have. Thanks chaps.

Whether the machine is entertaining or not is not the issue, emulation is supposed to be about ensuring that machines long since disappeared from arcades are available for people to play in future. MPU5 is too new and too current imho to be a worthwhile emulation when you have older technologies that are not emulated and ten times more difficult to get resources for, even today, let alone in a year or two.

System 5 (JPM) machines include some very popular ones, such as Fairground, Hagar, Popeye, Mousetrap, Hot Dogs, Hells Bells (club) and Filthy Rich.

Personally I find Fairground to be far more entertaining that Psycho Cash Beast which is a bit shallow gameplay wise.

AS FAR AS IT GOES I WOULD NOT GET TO EXCITED ABOUT AN MPU 5 EMULATOR AS MPU5 IS FAR TO COMPLICATED TO EMULATE YES IT HAS BEEN DONE BUT YOU NEED A VERY POWERFUL PC EVEN THEN IT RAN SLOW THAT WAS WITH OHH ARR DRACULAR ON I HAVE ALL THE TECH SPECS OFF THE BOARD ETC BUT EVEN THAT WONT HELP SORRY .

MPU5 will always be quite new and it always will be until a newer tech is emulated. So that means no company is going to build a new tech until the old one is cracked. romman what was you going on about that MPU5 has been done?

Can I be pretty f***in frankly honest here?

The only people that want MPU5 emulation are the people that want to 'cheat' on machines in the pubs. As for the mention of Ooh Aah Dracula....that is available as an MPU4 BWB Rebuild.....and it plays the same as the Barcrest, no? Just goes to show that MPU5 does not mean a better playing machine. MPU5 means a smaller board, simpler to work on from a technical point of view and lamps that dim :D

Looking forward from remarks about the fact I have no clue about what I'm going on about and that people dont want to cheat they just want to play Monty Python...well then....BUY ONE. Quit whinging. Who is goin to take on the project just because people whinge that they cant play Monty Python? I loved Monty Pyhton, which is why when I see one I play it....I dont care if its emulated. Having said that, how bout a Stiffulation or something along those lines? Just make it not pay out at 120%+++ as my Casino Crazy Fruits did! :D:D

[EDIT] : I agree....when you say Ooh Aah Dracula has been emulated and you make out like you are the superdude that ownz all teh machine emulat0rz.....are you SURE it wasnt just the MPU4 BWB Rebuild being run on your Breville powered PC?......And no offense, calling yourself ROMMAN, typing in CAPS and making that your FIRST POST gives the impression you are here to piss people off. Congrats, you are todays 1000000th winnner!! If you disagree with the above statement, we would all love a follow up post from you, and hence I look forward to eating humble pie....although I dont see that as happening.

Sorry for being annoying, A Levels and no free time cept ridiculously late lol.

MPU5 isn't new, it's been around for a few years. It's current, which is the key point. You can't say if Barcrest are still using MPU5 in 2015 that MPU5 is still quite new. The emulation of a technology has no bearing on how new the technology is considered to be in the field, in fact the reverse applies, the emulation of a technology is often decided by how new it is considered to be.

So that means no company is going to build a new tech until the old one is cracked.

No it doesn't mean that at all. There was no emulator out for MPS2 when JPM moved to Impact was there? Companies design new technologies for a number of reasons, including more integrated components, cheaper build cost and increased power. The availability of emulators was never a consideration in the past, although probably is now thanks to JPeMu.

I dont want to join the old
'Lets pester the techie types til they make an emulator then pester them again for another emulator' type crowd...I just wonder if this is possible.
We have JPemu out [cant remember which letters should be in caps, but thatll do!], which emulates the JPM Impact tech......wouldnt it be possible to, with just a little work, emulate VideoImpact? I mean, I consider the old Impact quiz machines to be great fun, play reasonably fairly, e.t.c. If ya needed, due to the current state of my cluedo, I can lend program cards, the mainboard, e.t.c.

Just a little idea....although I just realised it has a touchscreen which could be a bastard to emulate. Still, if anyone is interested, I will do all I can to help, not just expect them to work on one because I sign up to a guest account and demand one, as seems to be the norm these days.

I blame the FairPlay campaign for making the emulator available to more people, or at least for publicising its usage..... couldnt that make us open to attacks from Maygay, e.t.c? It was their Eastenders machine which was used a main example...and I think they used the Club Monopoly as an example....is that not Maygay as well??

Oh dear.....time to get out while we all can :)

Ok i get the hint that we dont really need mpu5 (yet). lets just be happy with what we have got and well done to layout designers and emualter coders, for all the work and crap that you have took.
and well done to bellfruit benito for these coments.

Man, I can be quite OTT when Ive just lost loads in a local Pie Factory which MUST have been chipped badly...
....It only ever offers £1.90 on the board, maximum, always follows the same pattern and takes way more than I would expect around the back for anything to happen!!

I'm sorry if I offended anyone with my posting in this thread, I just dont like people that come in here and either a) expect us to help them play new machines without any valuable contribution to the forums...i.e those with GUEST login or those called ROMMAN...where did he go?? lol

If you want advice on how to play machines, and thats the only reason you have come here....type the name of the machine in google, or look for a guide on a site like [i think] www.fruitmachines.net

Thats all I have to say this time!!

I couldnt't agree more. Although still fairly new to the scene, I think the title of this webiste says it all - Fruit Machine Emulation - not tips, not cheats, not magic wands that cause machines to unaccountably chuck out millions of pounds for no reason - just emulation. I suspect most of the serious members of this site (not ROMMAN obviously lol) play the emulations for the enjoyment and nostalgia and will also play current machines in pubs and arcades for the same reason (obviously apart from the nostalgia bit). I personally consider it a challenge to see how long my £10 or £20 will last and if I happen to hit on a streak, then fair enough, I walk away in credit. I find it extremely distasteful that there is a blooming market for gadgets which empty machines illegally. If there was not a problem with these devices, then there would be no need to 'chip' machines, therefore machines would play fairly and everyone would be happy - the owner would be getting a fair return on his investment, as would the punters. If the problem gets worse, then we could see the machines disappear from our pubs altogether, or be saddled with the boring US style machines.

Many apologies, but it seems like whenever I submit a comment on this thread, I get upon my soap box and go into a heavy speech.

By the way - is it only me that thinks the Moto/Granada/Whatever machines are particularly tight?

BarcrestBenito - it would be a good idea to sign in before submitting a reply or we might thing you're one of those so-called guests you were complaining about.

Lol...seemed it wasnt my cookies, just the fact that when I access the site from an MSN site, it doesnt log me in automatically!

Bloody microsoft, out to make me look like a fool!!

...I wonder what a Microsoft fruit machine would be like? I'll throw an example together in photoshop soon as a joke, and I dare say it'll be on Critical Update 1017 or something :D

Yes I agree, it is purely the age old mentality of wanting something for nothing.
