I have now spoken to a very nice lady at royal mail who has prommised to sort out my problem. As my tickets did not arrive in time she said she would refund my rail fair, postage and £5 for it being 2 days late. All i got to do now is fill in a P58 and send off pop and my rail tickets. only thing is she said there is a backlog and would take about 3 to 4 weeks to sort out.

That's if it ever arrives....pmsl

Just kidding Ady :)

glad to hear, too many business seem to fob you off by policy initially in the hope you will just give up and let it drop. BT are terrible for this also and I am having real trouble with one of my complaints, they just pass me from pillar to post or direct me to bloody india where its hard enough to get the operator to understand english never mind the nature of the complaint

moral of the story, know your rights and stand up for them :)

You think YOU'VE got problems?

Here is an email I received at work today.... Legit, and relate to my workplace.

Yesterday Royal Mail returned several thousand undelivered envelopes to us (est. 4/5k), the majority of which were posted by CCS on 19th October 2007. CCS are currently in discussion with Royal Mail to establish the reason for this. Discussions are also taking place with our Legal department concerning how we will respond to Royal Mail.

To be honest what are you saying here?.....there are plenty of reasons, the fact is Royal Mail just wouldn't NOT deliver mail.

Secondly, on my delivery I see numerious packages just left on doorsteps...thes One I saw yesterday from Amazon delivered by a RIVAL firm...still there today soaking wet and luckily not stolen-----I wonder how many people complain straight away to RM saying it was them that left it!

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but I kept meaning to look if there was a reply from Dae as to why they were returned.....but no...

I would have thought they hadn't been paid for -- thats it!...which leads me onto this....

Funny how we are quick to complain but not compliment a service, not just RM but anything really......why are we like that in this Country?

Indeed they are. RM, to be fair, are not much better or worse than any other delivery service. In terms of train tickets, I usually go for paying for them at my local station, and then having them collected from wherever the person actually using them is leaving from. This is far less risky than sending them in the mail/via courier...

Daza - You can't blame Royal Mail for that - Never heard of Sotland :D

There was a case a while back where the Royal Mail returned an item posted to Scotland as Underpaid. They thought it should have gone Airmail!!!!!!!

Barmy!!

claim Consequential loss for the wasted tickets. Probably have to send them off to the Royal Mail. It is a guaranteed timed service for valuable items. I would imagine you would get the cash back. Just make sure you kick up hell with them. They lost a recorded xbox360 game of mine a while back, took several weeks but ended up getting cash back. Ironically, it worked out better as the game went for a tenner on ebay but to replace it, they sent a cheque for £24 :D

Generally though, can't really complain about the postal service. Send out 200-300 parcels a month and the lost rate is extremely low. Just hate the proportional posting. It's a pain lol

Not really Paul, Royal Mail no longer use the railways.....and goods lorries are to be restricted to 56mph in 2008.

A lot of Mail Goes Via air for inland Mail, take the Channel Islands for example, closer to the South Coast/West Country than Scotland is and that don't go Via Sea, is that so odd?....nope!

I thought they still used railways. I have seen several great long trains with Royal Mail on going thru Northampton Station. Mind, maybe they are rented out.

The thing with the Scottish one was that someone wanted them to pay for European Airmail rather than first/second class. As long as my post arrives safely, I am happy enough. I am just happy that out of the 100's of parcels sent last year, only about 3 or 4 have gone missing. Not too bad really.

Just Googled that and it appears (though a 3 year old BBC thread) you are right, must admit after the TPO's (Travelling Post Offices) were scrapped it must have been realised that the Trains were of some use.

Sorry Paul, that really was news to me....i'll try asking the percentage of carried mail and post it, can do as this is an educational thread now lol.

A fact now though.....British Airways Aircraft...seen the RM logo below the captain on the outside of the Planes?

Take a look via something like airliners.net

Ady, you are correct in that RM scrapped the TPO's a few years back, but two years a go, RM discovered they was struggling a bit with shifting mail around xmas, so they brought back the TPO in some areas, all be it more like a trunk freight service.

Derby main sorting office is just a few hundred yards from the station itself, and also was at one time one of the main sites they used to park up the TPO's at Eches Park next to the station. RM managed to borrow some of the coal loco's from near by Toton (class 56 / 60 / 66's which are many times bigger than what the class 47's they used to use) from EWS, and some 38's from Fragonset to pull the TPO around here.

Often used to see the TPO on Platform 1, when I used to come off my late shift from BT BYahoo.

Also interesting is that the tunnel from Derby Sorting Office is STILL remaining, which links to the freight / passenger tunnel at Derby Station.

I got my compensation in the post today £21.30

£16 for the rail ticket and £4.30 it cost to send it. How can they call that compensation? Thats just the money back from the tickets i could not use and a refund on the postage. Still better than nothing. :-s
