In Topic: Site change to IBP

What's the point? I decided to move to IBP as are many other ex-vBulletin users. Sometimes there is no point in canvassing opinion and you have to do what is best for the longevity of the site. I don't have time to mess around with vBulletin mods anymore as I have a new job, a demanding young son and we might move house. I needed something out of the box to run the site and IBP was the only thing that fitted the bill. People can whinge as much as they like but you'll mostly find it's those that don't pay the bills that do the whinging.

I am a webmaster and have a current subscription to IPB and also a few add ons. It is very secure and a very good forum - it takes time to set up - especially the portal. This part can take a while to get spot on.

However, you will get used to a more intuitive forum so bear with it.
As an adminstrator it reduces the admin burden, and this is vital let alone someone with a family and moving house.

I wish you luck with your forum, however I wont be joining and I thought it may help if I explain why:
1. Its new, which means its unfamiliar
2. It has nothing new, in terms of its concept
3. Forums can be hacked, so I only join forums that I feel use a safe and robust forum system

Please don't take this as a negative criticism, but bear in mind you are competing against mature forums with a high degree of bandwidth, users and support.

If you have an original concept or something unique then it may be something that would attract users, but trying to capture users from an existing forum is always going to be difficult.

In Topic: Windows XP Mode - Windows 7

I dont have it on my version of Win7 as i downloaded RC Build7100 but from what i can gather from a m8 certain cpu's have trouble in a virtual enviroment (hardware assisted virtulization).

You can check compatibility by downloading a tool from microshite from here.

Download details: HAV Detection Tool

Hope this helps.

Thanks for this, it comes back and says its capable of running it....I think its a problem with having an AMD processor.......oh well.

Also, look for Techiez Toolz 3 (can be found on usual p2p method). This self booting cd has a tool that attempts repairs bad sectors on a drive without destroying the data.

If you want a copy of this disc, PM me!
