the cheapest i seen is at the shell station on the A180 going out of grimsby and thats at 94.9p a litre.
i think its time to be joining a BLOCKADE to try and combat this pathetic rise in taxes on fuel.

Hi
Its not the tax thats actually going up is the price of crude that is going up this is alledgedly due to the on going situation in Iran and the dispute the west is having with them, and also as a result of bigger demand in the devlopeing world, obviously as the price goes up the tax taken goes up but the current rises are not a direct result of tax increases, however I used to work in a filling station and my boss there allways said we, were just unpaid tax collectors for the govt, at that time we as the filling station only made 1.5p a ltr profit the filling stations actually make most of there money from oil sales. We have prices of 93.9 per ltr here at the moment at ASDA.

Dont think it'll be long before the blockades start again. I recall last time we had this problem people went mad, im a baker and people went from buying one loaf to buying 2-3 similar to the urge everyone gets at xmas and bank holidays!
Wasnt there an increase in a budget a last year or year before that keeps being put on hold???? imagine the uproar if that came in, on top of prices now?
HAs anyone signed up for the pipeline thing? how can they get a discount of 7-9p wouldnt the whole counrty sign up? or even have heard about it before?

This country rips us off big style we get over taxed on everything. If you went over to America you'd probably pay a 3rd of what you do over here. I remember how cheap is was to fill up when i went over a few years ago. I reckon, with the smoking ban coming in and more people are packing up, the govt will put at least some of the tax they might potentially lose, on fuel.
I don't really think introducing toll roads and congestion charges in more places will exactly win them more votes off drivers.

didnt the government introduce some form of legislation to stop the fuel depots being blocked, not sure but i think the police can arrest you for it, direct action is the only way now because the prices have got stupid, i think bp or shell made profits this quarter in the billions thats how struggling they are

I think they did but arresting potentially 100's of people up and down the country ain't gonna be an easy task. The police stations and prisons would be too full. I can't see fines being of much use either.

The problem is that not *enough* people mobilize. From the news articles
i read last time there were going to be blockades etc half of them were pitiful.
You need to make a stand like they do here in america - look at the amount
of 'power' these dang illegal immigrants in america, and they get together
(and supporters) making groups of 1million people etc. If Britain would stand
up and say "bite me" to the gas prices - something they shoulda done to
all those cameras too
- maybe something will happen.
Another method would be to demand an investigation into the accounting,
i.e. check the books.... if the taxman can give you a reaming, going through
your stuff, go through theirs and find out exactly where the money is going.
People know not all of it is going where it should. You voted for the toads,
get accountability.
(Even 10yrs of living in america can make ya think like them... sue suuue

I think eventually people will stand up and be counted. We could see protests on the scale of when the Poll Tax was introduced and look what happened to that!! Thursday in the local elections will be a good opportunity to show the govt we won't have the wool pulled over our eyes and we're sick of how things are being run. I hope people will take that opportunity. I know i will. Taxes need to be lowered on things such as fuel. Instead of the current yo yoing (is that a word? lol) we have at the mo. A threshold should be set.
The fuel companies need to start absorbing more of the costs that are being passed to the consumer at the pumps.

It's funny this thread....Sorry guys but I've got to laugh. The "great smoking debate" thread that I contributed to a load of times on this site was ignored and pilloried by a lot of members. We've paid tax on cigarettes for years subsidising everyone else. The stats about the NHS were sub-standard and totally false about smokers using more NHS resources than the tax paid for. It was patently obvious that "stealth" taxes would be introduced over a period of time to compensate for the ban coming in next year. It was also obvious that the "do-gooders" would then pick on another form of pollution that affects them afterwards. In other words, car drivers. Why should I have to put up with your pollution if you can't put up with mine? I for one am glad. It has been proven that cars cause more cases of asthma than smoking. I won't go into the whole debate again as it has already been documented. But you have been well warned. I have already cut down on cigs by 50% because of the ban in Scotland. I foresee the same end result for car drivers. I thought we lived in a democracy?
<span style='font-family: Comic Sans MS'><span style='font-size: 12px;'>It's all done in the best possible taste.

NOT trying to cause a row here mate but just for the record i don't smoke or drive. As i said earlier in the thread i had a feeling the tax loss on ciggies would go on fuel. But as you say the whole smoking debate thing has already been done on another thread.

No probs Mrmystery. I'm not going to re-open the smoking thread either. My final thoughts are these. Since 1986 the cost of a packet of cigarettes has increased by 700%. Slightly higher than the rate of inflation I think you'll agree. I'm not sure what the percentage is petrol wise is because I don't drive either...but I'm sure it isn't anything near that. Once the smoking ban starts in England, watch for other taxes rising rapidly. Council tax, 2p on Income Tax, National Insurance being raised....etc.
Mind you, the state Labour are in they might have to reverse the whole process if they want to come close to winning the next election....lol
