Hello,

The VFD stopped working on my MPU4 machine (Rocky Horror) I took out the board and found the old battery leak problem.

The tracks directly under the battery were shot as were a few around the battery. Mostly the VFD lines.

I have patched over and tested continuity. Clean and put new battery in.

Now when I switch on, the machine initializes normally. Reels set, all the lights work, VFD all looks ready to go....

Except;

- Does not recognise coins.

- None of the door switches / test switch do anything.

I can't see it being a track repair I've missed as the switches and coins were working before, it was just the VFD alphanumeric that was not on.

Does the unit need programming somehow to recognize these parts again..?

Any help appreciated.

Ant.

Best thing to do is check each connector on the mpu 4 and make sure you havent put one of the connectors back in 1 pin out believe me it happens.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply, I have since now fixed the issue.

My track repair work was fine but putting the MPU4  back in the cabinet the refill key switch cabling had become shorted on the metal cabinet internals.

This had burnt up 47ohm R85 & 4.7v zener  diode ZD24 in the MPU4.

With these gone it knocked out all the door switches, coin detect, and some of the game buttons....

Replaced these two components and tested okay - she lives again.
