Right, a bit of a problem on the hi lo reel, it says on the display 'Reel E setup, seek tab failed'. I had this problem when the machine first arrived, as the seek tab got lose, but then after some wiggling about it worked fine, but now its happening again.
Any idea on how to fix it, my money is inside the hopper and i cant dump it unless its working. Nothing is lose, the reel spins and is in perfect allinment with the seek tab, but i have no idea what to do, and i really want to call out an engineer as that will cost.
The alarm A2-25 or is it the other way round cant remember, anyway it says in the manual that it means the there is a reel set up failier.
Any help that fixes this problem and i will be glad to pay a small amount/donate to fruit emu :-D
Cheers
Dave

When it happened to me it was an opto failure - did a couple of times within 10 minutes of getting the machine, but then didn't hear it again for ages.
Then the next time it happened it was going off all the time, making the machine unplayable.
I replaced the whole reel for £5 from a local supplier. I'd expect it to be a pushfit reel - they take about 20 minutes to swap, although you'll want to swap the band as well as if you get one from a supplier it'll no doubt be from a different machine.
Failing that you could just get a new opto?

if all else fails u can empty the hopper manually m8 like i had 2 do
presuming it's on a push fit clip .....undo wingnut or slide locator pin outwards and remove hopper .....turn upside down on floor job done....sorry i can't help with reel prob though u can get new opto's on ebay cheap enough
as u can tell i'm a fully qualified fruity engineer from my technical terms

Is the opto the black clip with the white thing underneath with the wires, cause if it is that was the problem. I switched them round when it first started and it was fine till now. Do you reckon any of the companies in p'boro will have them, which means i can get one instantly to sort out the problem?

Barcrest, up n over, genesis cabinet.
I tried switching the opto with one on the main reel and it made no difference, does this mean that a new opto would also make no difference, or does anyone think that it is the whole reel that needs to be replaced??
Cheers for your help to guys.

its either the opto(but if you tried a replacement and it is still faulty then forget about the opto) or you may have a warped reel drum.
what to do is when the reel is turning look inside to see if the reel looks like it has a warp.i have changed reel drums in the past which have been slightly warped and it knocks the black tab that is attached to the reel drum out of sync with the opto.
failing that it may well be a motor fault but to be honest i cant remember the last time i had to change a reel motor on a genesis cabinet.

Is the opto seek tab still on the reel, and is it fitting through the opto ok? (ie it has not dropped off, or has not moved so it hits the opto instead of passing through it)
Check cabling and connector, make sure no loose / snapped wires (which could be a possibility aas you got it working by wiggling about the first time)
Check both reel end and at the other end of the lead. Make sure both in firmly, and not damaged.

Thanks for the replys everyone.
The seek tab is on the reel, it passes perfectly through the opto, there are also no loose cables or anything. I think that it must be a reel, although i cant really see that it is warped, i still reckon this is probably the problem, so ill ring up the companies round peterborough to see if they have any spare ones
Cheers baz, ben, ken, slippery and ninestonecowboy (although i did not really understand what you were talking about lol)
Ill let you know how

Well that was odd, after tinkering about for ages and no luck, the thing started and the reel went flying off accross the room, put it back on again and now its working.
Now to buy a laod of bulbs off ebay and replace alot that have gone :-(

Not wanting to sound patronising, but you do know which reel E is don't you, as I believe your machine has 2 Hi-Lo reels?

yes i do, its the bottom one of the board, the lights in the reel flashed to show you it was that reel, and shouted at full volume hey check it out when it was not working.
And slippery i thought it would of smashed it to pieces at the force it flew off, and the the noise it made when it smashed down, it was pritty funny though especially how it worked after it. I think that it could of been the wires at the back of the reel as this is what it fell from, then i secured them all back in and its fine now.

Can you believe it, can you bloomin believe it, i want to use uncensored strong language here but i shant.
As it started up just now, a feelin came over me that it was gonna fail, and guess what "HEY, CHECK OUT OUT " being yelled at TOP VOLUME, why, i can here you asking me to check it out, why the need to YELL and REPEAT IT OVER AND OVER.
Looks like the flying solution was only temporary, i could manually throw it.....
Anyway bencrest, you said you got a reel off a local supplier, could you tell me were you got it, as p'boro automatics wernt really any help, and micro automatics had an answer machine (again), i see the the yellow pages theres a company in spalding so was it that one?
Cheers

Dave i,m not far from you in Bourne and I think who Ben is on about is Hart-Marlour Lesure/automatics. Last time i dealt with the guy was very helpful so worth a look in the yellow pages. Failing that try Regal http://www.regalamusements.co.uk there very helpful too. Just ordered 5 new reel bands for my cpcb. Give them a ring i'm sure they'll put u right

I think Hart Marler do probably supply machines in Bourne, think I may have seen some of their stickers about...
I get my spares from Anthony at Eastern Automatics at Boston as well, thats probably about 30 miles from Peterborough though.
Micro Automatics were quite hard to get hold of, I ended up getting put through to the guys house I seem to rememeber, but organised a walk around the next day at the lockup.
They had several machines at a good price, but I ended up getting one from somewhere else in the end
As I normally say, dig out a Yellow Pages, look under Amusement Machines, and call everyone. In Spalding say theres about 3 suppliers within 5 miles, I would assume that in Peterborough there's about 5 within the same distance.
Failing that, I'm sure the people at say Hart-Marler would do you a reel if you didn't mind driving to Spalding [well, Pinchbeck, which is basically a part of Spalding] and collecting one.
Same as I had with Spiker, rather than messing around changing optos, I got the whole reel and a Pie Factory reel band [still attached to it when bought] for a fiver, cured it
