whenever i want to edit any meters for example the Simpsons £10 fruit machine it comes up with cannot save layout file after editing the configuration is there anyway to fix this to make it save the layout as i don't know what i am doing wrong thanks

You are in " read only" mode press ctrl+ W to clear this then try saving again.

how do I do this anyway

load the layout and whilst its in attract mode pressthe ctrl and w keys at the same time then save layout by going to (edit bar in mfme)

nope still comes up with the same message what does attract mode mean

this is the problem i am getting with this fruit machine

 

the first 2 reals say the right character phrases however the 3rd real does character phrases different for example it will play grandpas voice when homer is showing or barts voice will play when you hold homer's picture

Attract mode means the machine is switched on but not being played so the lights are flashing.
As for the Simpsons reels on this particular layout there are a few characters that are out of place but the main symbols are correct I think it's only one or two that's incorrect, maybe Ross will look into this sometime and amend the layout accordingly. But in the mean time just be apply with what you've got just over a year ago these machines and many others were just a dream.

okay mate i sent a message to Ross about this so he should get back to me hopefully but i will keep with what i have for now and wait in the near future to see if anything has been updated

 

i got a message back from him he said it was due to the lack of resources
