I have plenty of ROMs, but it's good quality artwork we are really lacking (and sound ROMs to a lesser extent).
These Epoch's are proving to have almost no longivity, they are disappearing fast.
But it's the classic games I would like artwork for too. Games like Andy Capp, Las Vegas 6, Monopoly, Pink Panther, Cops & Robbers.
I have a sony Z3 Compact phone, not exactly the latest and greatest in terms of mobiles, but even that has a 1920 * 1080 screen on it.
4k is getting more and more prevelant, and we have so little artwork that could be used for 4k games.
My favorite machines are on Impact, and I have 7 machine I have collected so I can get proper artwork for layouts.
I'd really like to build an Amber Cab using a couple of 4k screens, and video buttons. But if I did, there would be so few layouts that would look decent at that size and resolution.
Pixel density has improved dramatically in TV's, Monitors, Mobiles. 1280 * 1024 layouts are old now.
Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the effort that has gone in to all the layouts we already have, and I've had a lot of fun with 1280 DX's over the years, but its 20 years since MPU34 came out. It won't be long before we see 4k mobile phones.
It's not just Epoch, it's all techs. If I emulated Red Gaming, how many resources have we got, if I emulated Astra how many resources have we got, etc.
We need to gather resources whilst they are there, they wont be there forever.
Dave P has always been kind to me in letting me photo his machines in his arcade but I haven't been able to get down there in a few years. Someone else must live close by, in the first instance he has around 100 machines that could be done, and some like Omega, or Screen Play have never been done in a DX. (Again Screen Play, if I emulated it tomorrow, I bet we don't have hi quality art). We really need a System85 machine, We have a flyer for 1 machine and it's not a brilliant flyer either.
I'm up for putting the effort in to emulating all these techs eventually, but if there's no decent layouts can come out of it why bother?
I understand that people want to see a release first, and I get that, I really do. But of resources had been gathered when I started this project, these Epoch's were EVERYWHERE, getting missing ROMs and art would've been a doddle. Now it's going to take a lot more waiting and money. The good news is that broken machines tend to go cheap, but they also hit the scrap pile much quicker.
I'm happy to contribute some hard cash to the cause now and again, but I do not want to organise this project. I have enough on my plate for now.
I would suggest someone like AAAmusements, as I assume from his name that he has a gaming license and so can sell on machines when we are done without extra permit requirements, though that is up to him if he wants to be involved.
