Got a small (hopefully!!) problem with my machine, When either I first switch the machine on or during gameplay the machine sometimes re-initialises itself. It does this during door open and closed modes. If this happens I normally let it rest or attract for a few minutes and its fine for a while, it also takes the credit whilst doing this.

Some say its the power pack below overheating but how can it when its first switched on?? its a sanken psu by the way not the best one I hear?? No leaking battery on main board and a new game card. I've checked all connections and made sure wires are not trapped etc Also the 2nd bottom reel makes a noise sometimes if left idle whilst on the top board feature.

You've been advised well, it's usually the PSU.

What's actually wrong with the PSU as can't be caused by overheating?

Often just dry joints, or a cap  failing   and that can be when cold or hot.

The general fix if you don't know what your doing at component level is to source a different PSU as suggested above.

Psus aren't serviceable normally, if you do you risk a small pop and a bang lol.
Just buy a new one off eBay, shouldn't cost more than £30

As long as it has the same voltages on the pins then yes.

that's ok then i'll invest in one soon, no money for a bit lol. The person I was speaking to also said I could even put a scorp5 psu in the machine something to do with swapping a few connectors around??

then again just read the above post surely can,t be the main board as no battery leaking etc

While its totally possible to be the MPU, I am still sticking to the fact in my experience and with whats been said so far if there is no history of battery damage or visible damage I would 100% go for a diff PSU first as its a very common problem with these.  Ideally its best to "borrow" a known working one as if you don't get the right part first time you will end up buying a PSU and MPU.

Yes from memory there are wires that need to be swapped to get the right voltages to the correct pins. Can't remember which though without finding all the schematics.

I experienced this when I bought a machine, it would work fine then reset randomly sometimes when you placed a coin into the machine.

Replaced power supply and worked fine.

Thanks for the welcome! I used to play the emu's many years ago, thinking of playing them again. Often check this site and noticed all the great layouts you post.

As for the machine, I do hope it cures the problem, I have had a few machines in the past and in the end you do feel like smashing them up if they develop a fault and the problem persists!

Hopefully that will not be the case with yours, fingers crossed.

spoke to a man that knows mr reflex' and the restarting problem is either thw psu or the loom that is connected to the psu. spoke to him as my machine has now temporarily died, the roms the 'hi' one has lost two pins tried putting the version2 ones in but they became very hot. apparently they were put in wrong way around so may try them again, but I am being sent a new hi-lo v1 set.

Oooooh Vecs, that's a good way to 'Brick' a motherboard, putting in IC's the wrong way round. hope you haven't done any permanent damage. Check which one is Pin 1, sometimes the Rom has nick in the case or marking to tell you which way round it goes.

Good Luck

All Ok AFAIK put rom version2 in last night the correct, label now upside down way and it initialised. v2 is £35jp so in my eyes a better level of play. Had to put a code in which I thought was odd and now if the cash door is unlocked whilst on it alarms grrrrrr
