Hi guys,

 

You may have seen from my earlier post that I had a problem with my Fantasia Rol A Top, which was caused by a flat battery.  Following the good advice I received on here I've investigated and the battery has started to leak - but I think I caught it just in time.  I've removed the battery now and cleaned the small amount of discharge with vinegar.

 

Could anyone tell from the pic below if it looks like there is any damage to the board caused by the battery leak?

 

Pic 1 is the battery in position, Pic 2 is the battery removed, and Pic 3 is the area after being cleaned with vinegar.

 

Also, does anyone know where I can buy a replacement battery?  As suggested, I will try and mount this off the board to prevent problems in future

Looks like you caught the leak just in time!!!!! The battery is a common type, try looking around on the internet for a good deal.

Thanks all, yes I was quite pleased when I checked the battery - I was worried it had leaked everywhere, but apart from a tiny bit of discharge the battery seems not to have actually leaked on the PCB

 

I've ordered one of those newer batteries - thanks for the heads up!

 

I'll mount it off the PCB as earlier suggested.  Do I just solder wires onto the board, and have the battery just dangling down outside the plastic casing?

Yep, got it in one, taking care to make sure you have the + / - pins right way around.

The tracks look fine, I would fly lead the new battery or get a coincell battery & holder.

For the wire..... if you have got nowt about, can use phone wire from places like Wilco's etc, and that will do the job good enough
