Hi all,

I have just picked up this machine as not working.

I have opened her up and seen that the Epoch board certainly has had leaky battery syndrome!

Here are some pics. Is it worth trying to fix or go looking for a worker?

Thanks in advance

That board is toast bud.... even with a minor leak on an epoch, it normally spells game over for them.

However, provided the rest of the machine is good, maybe worth picking up a new system board.

Would suggest giving this chap on Facebook over in Birmingham a try, as he's had epoch spares in before.

Thank you Stan. You tha man!

I'll have to keep my beady eyes out for a board then.

Would you suggest desoldering the battery and fitting wires in between, keeping the battery off the board?

EDIT: Would this faulty board stop the whole machine working? Sorry if it's a silly question.

Yep, this bord will certainly be at least part of the non working issue, if not, the MAIN issue, as it will have eaten 2 tiny tracks under the battery, as well as other parts on the board.

Also it's a good idea to fly wire the battery off the board when you get a replacement.

That's one of the worst I've ever seen. Definitely not worth spending any time trying to fix that board.
As Mark says, look for a new one. With a guarantee, if possible.

Update - Have fitted new Epoch board but problem still the same. Have removed PSU to see if that is the problem. No burns on power supply connector.

If there is a problem, will i lose one of the LEDs on the PSU? Or can it still be faulty with all LEDs lit?

Best way to check it works fine?

EDIT - Upon further inspection all LEDs are on but the -12v LED is off?

EDIT 2 - Have just checked all outpt pins from the PSU. All are around abouth 10.9v. Is this correct?

Off the top of my head those voltages sound very wrong!

These PSUs can be faulty with no outward signs. In worst cases the board inside will have burning on it but it's not an absolute rule.

I opened up the PSU and the wires all showed signs of melting/overheating but there was no burning.

The -12v shows when connected now.

LEDs for Security, Reset and +VDISP are not on, but the other 3 are.

LEDs on all other boards are on.

Heh my bad..... sould have mentioned that boot chip, as not all sellers supply new boards with this on, but least you had the good sense to salvage the old one, so all is good :)
