Right,

It looks like my non-working Joker Poker is due to a faulty power supply (I borrowed a power supply from a working Joker Poker and it worked!).

So my question is........... can the power supplies for these be repaired. or where is my best chance of finding a replacement?

I will put a picture up tomorrow, but the PSU has a 240v IEC AC in on the front, an IEC AC out on the side (for the screen) and 2 DC outputs on the back/side.

Will post a pic tomorrow, but if anyone has any suggestions in the meantime, it would be appreciated!

Many thanks,

Mark

Best off getting pic's up, and especially where info like make and model is shown, which will help in finding out what can be done.

Unfortunately I lack experience on Project machines, and especially the video based stuff, so I can not suggest at this point what is best.

On older type PSU's, the general thinking is they are repairable, but on ones based on switching mode (Like Bell-Fruit Scorp4 stuff, and I have a feeling your PSU will be similar to what they use from Sanken, with the Stadium versions well known for going up in smoke!), they are harder to repair, so generally with those sorts, it's best to replace, or in the case of non-casino cab Electrocoin's, changing the switch mode box inside for a JAMMA+ switch mode unit (Costs around £15 and quite easy to do).

Thanks Stan, appreciate the advice.

Here are the  pics - I didnt have a lot of time so the pics are taken with it inside the machine, but I'll take it out and take some pictures of the back too if that will help.

I would be happy to pay for a new one or pay to get mine repaired if that was an option :)

Thanks in advance,

Mark

For some reason when I click on the links to the pics I uploaded, I get the message that  I am not able to view them.

Can anyone else see them, or what do I need to do to get them to display as thumnails?

Cheers,

Mark

OK, it's a Sanken SPS077W (48 volts), which is a very common part that is used on Bell-Fruit Smiley cabs, Astra (Pretty much all of Novamatc Group use them), JPM / ACE on the Heber platform, ETC, however you do have to watch the main voltage on these so you get the right one, this being a 48v unit (With exception to a few BFM Scorp4 games like some versions of Crazy Fruits, they use this very same unit, and even scorp5 PSU's can be made to work with a slight adjustment).

These units in general, suffer a lot with dry joints, so it could use with cracking open and a soldering iron running over joints that look a bit dry....... If this don't work, then I would recommend replacing the whole unit.

There are none on e-bay at the moment (Just 36v versions that came out of Astra Slotto machines at present), but you could try steveh (MPU Mecca member) over at Swallow Amusements, and see if he can help?

RE: Permissions of viewing pics........ There is currently an on going issue (Mostly to do with the downloads section) at present, so a report has been sent to the forums technical guys to look at, so bear with us whilst we get this sorted :)

If viewing of pic's is urgent, can we ask folks to use an external hosting service like Photobucket, whilst we get this looked at..... sorry for any inconvenience caused.

Please see the following post for more info......

Hi guys, I've been offered a working power supply from a local-ish supplier for £49 + my faulty supply.  Does that sound a reasonable price?

Cheers, Mark

Sounds like an exchange for your old unit and you collect the new one..... TBH if that is all inclusive, then it's not a bad deal, especially as if you get any problems, easy to sort it with the supplier, unlike say getting it off the net etc :)

Thanks guys, the place is about 40 minutes away from me so I would need to drive and collect it, but at least I know it won't get bashed around in the post.

Cheers,

Mark

I'd say go for it. There's a lot to be said for having decent support in the event of a problem. And it's worth paying a bit more than normal, on that basis.
