I just got a letter from my ISP (BT Broadband) saying they have evidence I have been Distriputing unauthorised Copyrighted material using Protocol: Bit Torrent.

They say they will now take the appropriate steps under there Abuse Policy.

Looks like im in a lot of trouble, I strongly recommend you dont use Bit Torrent !!!!!!!!

Its kinda the same thing as winmx, only the downloads are listed on a website, after you choose what you want then it uses Bit Torrent to transfer the data, something like that anyway :?

wow, what a relief, The only evidence they have is my IP address, and the letter is copy of one that was sent to BT from 'The Motion Picture Association' (MPA)

So all I need is this PEER GUARDIAN thingy?

I use phoenix torrents and loads of ppl on the forums have had these letters....bin it m8 :?

madman I downloaded 'PeerGuardian v1.99 pr14' It is running now but I have no idea what it even does, or if i have it set up right

I didnt download my Bittorent mine came with a magezine disk called PC gamer so how can it be illegal if companies are distrubuting Bittorent tell BT you got it of a disk called PC gamer and tell BT to and go and f**k themselves. :wink:

Good old BT.....anyone who joins up for £19.99 BB with them needs their head checking out - 1GB per month cap!

I mean, thats less than HALF of the Kill Bill 2 TCR 3 SVCD set that I downloaded in 1 day with me Pipex 576kbit - no download caps at all

Joseph, think what it is mate is what's downloaded..........Ok to have kazaa for example..But download a song or game and the Law is broken..Yet saying that P.C. Gamer is a respectable mag......Blimey now I have confused myself!!!!!

I think what causes problems is that [from what I remember], 60% of all internet traffic is a combination of BitTorrent and KaZaA - thats a lot of traffic :O

The ISPs can't afford for people to keep this amount of traffic up, and so don't be surprised if more bandwidth caps come into effect soon - NTL and 1GB per day was ok, but 1GB per MONTH?

Trust me, leave BT ASAP - I could recommend many, cheaper and more efficient companies to serve you your sizzling hot DivXs :D

SuprNova = Illegal use of legal file sharing tool

If I rember right Kazza was made legal because they're not responsible for how you use it and what you choose to download,

Anyway, How exactly was my IP obtained in the first place? How did they find out I used Bit Torrent, pffffff I call that an infringement of MY privacy :wink:


And BT know sites like supernova excist so why dont they prevent access to them like 'The Motion Picture Association' ask them to?

I haven't heard a word from BT yet, they have no idea as to what I downloaded (I think) All they know as that I used Bit Torrent.

And yeah 1GB per month is a joke, I mean 12 GB a year??? I use that in a week

With respect to bit torrent, the torrents aren't illegal, it's the files that are transported between people that are. Therefore the torrents hosters are clear. Just like the fruit machine emulator is legal but hey......

The letter I received is actually a copy of an E-Mail received by BT from M.P.A.

From what I understand BT are not aloud to forward my details onto M.P.A because it is illegal to do so under the Data Protection Act. But that may soon change. All I got from BT was one sentence saying "Please find enclosed a Take Down Notce from The Motion Picture Association" BT dont seem to care less, they didn't even ask me to stop using Bit Torrent.
