eurepean amusement and gaming expo
============================

many of the top names were there at the Excel (docklands london) for the first show at this location. there was a braod range of stands from video games, punch ball machines to crane grabbers and large distributors like AMG and MDM. there was also alot of smaller companies that make data capture devices, reels buttons coin sorters and even a cuddly toy company who sell them by the box for your redemption stuff.

All the machines are on free play, the only manufacturer who bothered to turn up here was Project. I do have a soft spot for project machines, but was disgusted with their arrogant attitude. Faced with the challenge of completing a potential £200k contract the guys at project couldnt give me the time of day. sad that.

MDM were also as arrogant as could possibly be, they old guy i spoke to couldnt even be bothered to get out of his seat.

AMG however swept me off my feet, not only was i introduced to the team, they also offered to come to the location and size up each AGC with any machine specification we wanted.

International gaming expo 2010
=======================

If anybody got a kick out of the european expo, this place would knock your socks off. this even was for the world with all manor and variety of casino equipment and betting shop hardware crammed over the entire floor space of Earls Court (if only i could have been there when pink floyd played...)

IGT (barcrest) and Novomatic (astra) seemed to dominate the floor space with their latest offerings. the casino stuff was obviously not my concern but the sheer size of these machines made for good playing!

I found a double backed 4 player machine, on one side was `sex in the city` machines, complete with high backed grand prix style chairs, topped with some 100" plasma making the machine some 20ft tall! and as if this wasnt bad enough, it was double backed, therefore at the rear was another at the rear! (though which machnie it was escapes me). All terminals are £4000 jackpot progressive pots etc etc etc. £100k +vat and its yours.

Strangely enough both igt and novo had their £70 and £500 jackpot machines on show. This was a waste of time in my opinion as the entire amusement industry was at the other end of town. Barcrest were shonig off their new hot rocks range, complete with rumbling volcano (yawn) and astra had their new going loco and winwall

Category C Video ? Multi Player - UK Products -

JPM had a massive european stand all in their cabinets that have the neon lightr strip down the side. they only had 3 (yes THREE) UK cat c products on display (and they were arogant enough to say buy it from deith leisure or f*** off). the cat c re release of casino crazy looks a very inpressive piece which i recon will go far, by the flick of a switch it becomes the old £250 jackpot machine - looking better an ever.

All in all, though this show at earls court was the best show by far in terms of being impressed by casino equipment, i found the other show at thr Excel by far more interesting due to the fact that it was centered around the UK coin-op industry and not around Las Vegas style casinos. That said, i was very impressed with the option given to change half your arcade into a betting shop using `white label` technology.

How come Barcrest, JPM and ASTRA are allowed at these expo's?

These are 'Amusement' and 'Gaming' expo's yes?

I'm worried. The world has gone mad with mis-information. I hope I don't end up with a vasectomy next time I visit the dentist.

Thats only because the bricks didn't work and i wriggled out of the nasty cable tie.

My lads have just turned 20. Although I'm no longer legally obliged to support them both financially, I'll still be looking out for them. A few more years and they will be earning more than me and no longer need pops money. I don't think it would be a good idea saying 'bye' to paying for my lads and saying 'hello' to a potential Compost + Sally creation and another 20 years of massive out-goings....lol.

So how do you work that out then?

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

AMUSEMENT! :-
a⋅muse⋅ment

–noun
1. anything that amuses; pastime; entertainment.
2. the act of amusing.
3. the state of being amused; enjoyment.

Errm, thats 1 FAIL!

How can losing money at a frightening rate for no return be regarded as AMUSEMENT?

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

PRIZES!:-
–noun
1. a reward for victory or superiority, as in a contest or competition.
2. something that is won in a lottery or the like.
3. anything striven for, worth striving for, or much valued.
4. something seized or captured, esp. an enemy's ship and cargo captured at sea in wartime.
5. the act of taking or capturing, esp. a ship at sea.
6. Archaic. a contest or match.

Errm, thats 2 FAIL!

How can a machine that says it is offering the player a chance of winning whilst unknown to the player, theres actually a 100% chance of not winning. How does one gain 'VICTORY' or 'SUPERIORITY' over a machine that has decided before you even play that you are not going to win?

Modern fruit machines are nothing more than gambling devices. Theres no 'AMUSEMENT' and there are no 'PRIZES'. The machine simply lets money leave it's hopper/tubes when a set of criteria are fulfilled. The machine GIVES you money when it see's fit. It is not WON. It is not a PRIZE. It is simply shedding excess gains in order to adhere to a set of parameters that are designated by law. Your winnings are simply the machine adhereing to a pre-determined percentage.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm sure theres a case here for the trades description act. Income generating machines that create misery and addiction, under the guise of the sweet name of AWP.

Hi Nails, I have to agree with you regarding the sales teams on some of those stands ! I went up with family who have several arcades and they said the same thing. We were also looking for new video equiptment and Brent Sales were good.

That said however, there were still too many clones of old machines - how many different ways can Casino Crazy be cloned these days ?! I went just to have a look around, but even the people I went with said there was nothing that stood out.

JPM are holding onto casino crazy the way bell fruit are clinging onto DOND.

the DOND game is ok, but the whole DOND theme has been copied out of proportion. i did like the way the jpm machine can be switch to £250 jackpot at the flick of a switch.

was glad to see barcrest are making the effort to bring out new machines. personally id love to see some old favorite re-release in one cabinet like smash and grab or razzle dazzle. priceless.

oh forgot line up!
