Calm down guy's or this can end up as one of those silly non-ending post's again.

As I see it (the post) I agree with everyone.

There are questions asked a million times over--then the site does support a 'search' tool.....I think the problem is 'newbies' just want to get-on-and-play-NOW, and know all the backgroud without researching the site. Of course when you have helpful members like BB who tries helping as much as he can this does get a bit annoying, especially when he knows he has said the same thing before....(hence using the search)

Newbies don't be put off to ask questions, except for a post there is also the chat rooms for help too.

Yeah, I'm sorry if I come across as patronising/offensive, but accept that I believe at the time of this thread being written there was already a thread on the homepage on the same topic....maybe not this thread, but one or more in the past week/two.

Perhaps we need an FAQ section on the front of the website? Seems most forums have them these days, just a page of Q & A for stuff like -

What is an emulator?
What technology can be emulated?
Where do the ROMs come from?
e.t.c

and also a little troubleshooting bit, i.e

I get a 'Wrong Sound Need 1.1' error!
I can't see the full machine!
I have Pink Reels!
e.t.c

Not only for my benefit :p , also for the benefit of those asking the questions, as they may have to wait ages for a reply :)

I'm not sure why this idea that the manufacturers are upset about their machines being emulated persists.
Why should they care?
If anything it encourages more people to play them in the real world.
It's not like emulating games consoles-these pretty much give you the total experience, but with fruit machines the emulator leaves out the most crucial element-the gamble.
No one in the FM emulation scene has ever been prosecuted, and I don't think it will ever happen unless maybe someone were to,say, leak one of the in-house MPU5 emulators. 8O

Empire were with it to start off with, but when unauthorised layouts and roms were used, they pulled out. We are emulating JPM Impact based machines which are made within the past 3 years, which while they have no real reason to argue about, they can do.

No one in the FME scene has ever been prosecuted....although when the original emulator was supplied with classic layouts and ROMs I don't think Barcrest were too happy :)

Basically, I agree, they have no real reason to worry about machines being emulated, but in principle, it is still against the law to have copyrighted ROMs and artworks, and so they have the right to remove them.

Lets just be really nice to the manufacturers, and make sure that none of the recent machines [Impact 2001 onwards, which I know are played by a select few who shall remain nameless] are released onto a site like this :)

Yes,it's the roms and artwork etc that are of dubious legal status, not the emulators.
There was a little bit more to the Empire decision(to do with the site being hacked into),but that's a can of worms that is probably best left unopened.
Several [ at the time] current Impact machines were released, but I don't believe JPM et al ever showed any concern.
JPM were probably glad of any publicity that drew attention to their crappy last few AWPs.
