Here's something a few of us saw happen at our local snooker club. We've got a mate who's seriously addicted to one of the fruit machines (Grand Slam). He can spend hundreds in a night. Well one night we saw him leaving the club just as we were entering. Inside, we noticed the Grand Slam machine had been switched off. An hour later we saw the owner turn the machine on and start playing. He played for about half and hour and won £50. He then put £2.50 back in the machine and switched it off. We realised then that our mate had asked to have the machine turned off so he could get some more money and carry on playing. (They've done this for him in the past.) He had left the £2.50 in the machine to show he was still playing. As he hadn't returned after an hour the crafty owner had dropped the machine and then replaced our mate's £2.50 as if it had never been played. We told our mate what happened but there's not a lot he can do about it except never trust the staff at the club anymore.

Sorry to drag up an old post :)

My local chain pub [Hungry Horse > Greene King?], was recently taken over. The old manager, who now runs a larger pub in the same chain AFAIK was strictly no staff on machines, although from what I remember his wife occasionally tried the SWP.

The new manager, who doesn't appear to be older than 18, has, since he took over, been playing the machines several times nightly, taking money out of the till without putting notes in, and has been showing the staff how to play them. This is during working hours, and it can be hard to get a drink in at the bar as they have 3 machines RIGHT NEXT TO EACHOTHER! [trust me, I'll get a pic if poss!!]

I think its funny that they have an AWP each side of an SWP, so that the AWPs [70% 30p Hyper Viper + Cops N Robbers] can be spotted by both himself and barstaff for 50p for about 10 mins of South Park!

He claims 'they have to be like that, it's regulations'

Anyone know if thats the case? 3 Machines right next to eachother 1m away from the bar? Anyone else have similar crap?

No probs, don't know when I will next be in but I will see what I can get up to. I was going to get an A4 folder, stick the BACTA logo on the front [if they have one], and sit at the bar with dad commenting on its contents, which would probably just be old newspaper clippings lol

I would post details such as address on here, but the thread would no doubt be closed if I did!

I've only ever seen 3 (+ 1 Touch Screen) in 'Spoons pubs. Everywhere else generally has 2 (And possibly a touchy).

It's always nice to find somewhere with 1 (Then you know more have played it) however at the moment where I go that's a bunch of poo cos its Ready to Rock. Bah. (I won't stop hating that machine until it is banished from my sight :x )

Anywhere i've ever been they aren't usually together. Most pubs have things in seperate rooms, or on opposite sides (Ala Spoons). Only place i know where they're together is in my Student Union bar. Don't think they have to be there, just makes sense to save space, get people playing all in the same place etc (Keeps 'em out of the way of the pool table from my point of view :) )

I've completely forgotten what/why i'm replying so anything that doesn't make sense just ignore it :p i'm doing an assignment and my head is all over!!
I'm back! yay!

They never used to be that lose when the other landlord was in charge - they always had one Red Gaming on one side, and a Vivid on the other side, facing opposite directions, about 4m apart.

Now they have 3 together and staff play them. It isn't necessarily the fact that they spot and then attempt to win YOUR money out of the machine that really pisses me off, it is the fact that the machine is for the benefit of those drinking, and so for them to be making money anyway from cashbox [I would assume they ran a cashbox share system with LeisureLink], and so when I go into the pub, and the staff are on, it takes when pi**, considering they know that dad and myself are slotters!
