I take it a machine still has to be virtually extinct b4 an emulator exists 4 it. No possibility of emulators for the current 70 pounders r there.

I don't think that any of the £70 ones are (or will be) worthy of emulating.

To be honest though, I don't believe any £70 machines will run in the current emulators, there is a small chance that ROMs from a smaller business will run - you can rule out the main players - Bell Fruit (inc Mazooma and QPS), Barcrest (inc Red Gaming, Extreme, Maygay, Vivid, Impulse), and any video based £70 machines that you see.

The only ROMs which might potentially run would be from the likes of Empire, although I'm not aware of anyone having tested them - and I believe Empire Games are still not to be hosted on this site, working or otherwise.

Hello, im always lurking about on this website 5/5. I was just wandering how do you acquire the ROMS in the first place. are they released by the manufacturer? Also how come some machines can be emulated and others cant. As i would kill for an Emulated Extreme most Daunting, but another user said that it was not possible. Cheers

there extracted from the fruitys using a laptop and software and special cables.

some machines are not emulated cause of security measures (red) and others just havent got emus done/released yet (extreme/maygay) and some have issues with the emus (dond, other bellfruit)

Just to add to that, there are (were) many manufacturers, some using their own techs and others using another companies tech.

Then through the years each company upgraded the tech they used. SO in total there are a lot of techs... Each tech is a main board that the game card with the roms on plugs into (think sega mega drive). Each comapny uses its own types that are usually only compatible with themselves (again think SEGA, or SONY, or Nintendo).

(in approximate chronological order)
BARCREST - custom board (dubbed MPU), MPU1, MPU2, MPU3, MPU4, MPU5, MPU6

BELL FRUIT - System 81, System 83, System 85, system 80, Scorp I, Scorp II, Scorp II casino, Scorp IV, Scorp V

MAYGAY - MMM tech (manufactured by proconn?), M1A/B/C, Epoch, Eclipse

JPM - SRu, MPS, MPS2, System 5, Impact, Pluto 4,5,6

ACE - System 1, sp.ACE tech, I believe there are two distinct revisions of this too.

ELECTROCOIN - BAR-X tech ( a custom board using 2 z80 chips, made by a video game company), Pheonix tech.

PROJECT COIN - PC90, PC92, and a new one I think, no idea what its name is.

CASTLE - Dont know the exact name but there are two revisions, one uses a custome Reel controller CPU and the other is fairly similar to sp.ACE

A company whose name I forget also made a machine called Rainbow Gambler and that used its own custom tech.

Then there are the rebuild companies like Empire, QPS, RED Gaming, BWB, Vivid, Global, Mazooma, Gemini, Crystal, & Coinworld (probably missed some out there). These companies use techs made by one of the main companies as a platform.

Each one of those companies uses their own configurations or security too, usually.

So to answer the original question, to play every machine, you need to emulate every one of those techs, plus get to grips with each security modification, the add-on and extender cards, custom displays and fittings that only get used in one or two machines. Plus the older stuff was a lot more prone to custom additions to the board or add-in cards.

ROMs are placed in a ROM reader attached to a PC or laptop, each ROM type is slightly different and so you need the right reader for the roms you are trying to dump. Some roms cannot be dumped for various reasons.

However most are now readable but a reader to do them all will cost a fair few £££. By comparison a reader to read a few specific types is fairly cheap.

Im ill so had some time on my hands. Hope that answers the questions.

??? Well none of the s4 roms will run on current public EMULATORS. (I stress that word as folks still get mixed up with what is a emulator, a rom, a layout and a simulator. :realmad:)

For any current £70 jp machines to work in what we have MFME wise they would have to use a tech that is currently emulated without any 'new' protection. Again I doubt this is the case.
