Hi folks !

Does anybody know how it's possible to reset a fruit machine's RAM at all as mine appears to be corrupt when I purchased it from an amusement arcade - it's showing the percentage to be 654.3 on the VTP display even though I've set it to 70.0.

I have already posted a query on this forum earlier (Rich and Famous acting funny).

This is a Barcrest MPU4 board.

I'm unable to play the fruit machine (never been able to really since I bought it) as I keep getting a jackpot every 50p I put in (£14.00 for every pound inserted) which is so annoying as you can imagine.

Any clues on how to reset the RAM would be most welcome please.

Thanks anyone !

Jay

if you have a switchable stakes and prizes key, turn game off change settings turn game on. this will clear the ram. then just reverse back to original settings, hope this helps there are other ways if you don't understand this one.

I did pm you the same info bladefan2.

If you dont know how to do that, take the battery off the board for a few mins, then reconnect (remember to turn the machine off 1st!) 8)

I found on mine that it causes it to do a bt of a streak to start off with, it should then calm down. Keep a note of how much you put in and how much you take out over say a week and then try the VTPs and see if it is consistant. If not, you have a problem :)

Hi everyone

Thanks for your prompt replies

Unfortunately, it is quite an oldish machine and I think it has a static 5p £5.00 program (or whatever) in it as it is not a front-opening cabinet, but I will try the removing of the battery for a while and see what becomes of this and try the changing of the DIP switch etc (TV-AM - thanks)

I'll let you know how I get on

thanks again everyone

Folks !

This is a long one, bare with me ..............

Thanks for your suggestions everyone, but still no luck in cracking this one...

Because I think this may be a re-chipped fruit machine (showing it as BWB on the front even though it is a Barcrest machine) it does not have a switchable stakes and prizes key (well none that I can see anyhow), so I don't think it's possible to clear the ram by performing the 'turn game off, change settings, turn game on and put back to original state' - unortunately :( .

I can't locate the battery to remove (I'll post a couple of screenshots of the inside of the fruit machine tomorrow if anybody can locate it !!!!!!!)

What was interesting though (which I found myself) was that I opened the back door, pressed the test button (to give me 20 test credits), turned the refill key (to be able to view the VTP's) and went through the different values (as shown below):

01 VTP 4198993
02 PERCENT 654.3
03 TOK PER 193.6
04 TARGET 70.00
05 10P IN 8130176
06 20P IN 9665658
07 50P IN 4197973
08 PND IN 8130981
09 CASH IN 9666549
10 20P OUT 4199023
11 PND OUT 8141557
12 CASH OUT 9678020
13 TOKEN IN 4197965
14 TOKN OUT 8130123
15 PRIZ OUT 9665536
16 TOKN REF 4197961

01 VTP L8131167
02 GAMES L9667560
03 PERCENT L 337.9
04 CASH IN L8131164
05 CASHOUT L9678020
06 TOKEN INL4197989
07 TOKN OUTL8130147
08 PRIZ OUTL9665536
09 TOKN REFL4197985
10 TOKN BALL 265827
11 CASH REFL9667526

ALARM LOG ...

I kept my finger on the 'Cancel' button for about 5 beeps (10 seconds) and to my astonishment the display read 'Cleared'.

When I next flipped through the values the first 16 (except 4th - 70.0%) were all showing 0.00, except the next 11 (L counters) which were still the same.

I thought I'd cracked it - I thought I'd reset the RAM !!!

Anyway to test it -
I played down £21.00 (10p a spin)

and won ...

£247.00

I looked at the VTP log and it read for the second value:

02 PERCENT 1176.2

which is worse than before

02 PERCENT 654.3

I can't see the machine settling down to be

02 PERCENT 70.0

anytime too soon (unless I have to keep playing it - perhaps put another £100 in every day for the next 7 days or so) ...

any more suggestions any one ?

(sorry this post took so long - you can all wake up ... now !!)

Hi MartinMeu

It's Rich & Famous

I believe I know how to reset the RAM (unless you know a different way - please!)

Open Back Door
Press Test button (claim 20 free credits)
turn refill key
look at VTP on display
Keep finger on Cancel button for about 10 seconds (6 beeps)
display shows 'Cleared' and all temporary values are set to 0.0

Hope you've got a different way, cos' it's still playing like a bugger !

That [holding cancel] has nothing to do with RAM clear - which is why the VTPs ending in L haven't changed - that just clears the SHORT TERM METERS, and so te VTPs ending in L [LONG TERM METERS] still remain, proving the RAM hasn't been reset.

I think that your machine is faulty - contact the supplier to ask if they know what it could be :)

Hi BB

Thanks for your post

I've contacted the supplier and he's told me that the battery would probably need shorting.

I've posted an email to Adam who may be able to tell me where the battery is and how to short it.

I've even gone to the extreme of completely removing the MPU4 board and trying to locate the battery myself but can't find it (can't get to the screws)

jay your supplier does not no what there are on about mate nothing to do with the percentage. the battery is a back up for the games memory while the machine is turned off. if battery is failing this will clear the ram and memory and alarm and reset. you said earlier that you wanted to clear the ram so therefore its not your battery. like barcrest benito said its faulty but not the battery.

Hi Adam

Hi MartinMeu

not sure just yet what proper way of resetting RAM is, but will try and find out.

Regarding the battery being shorted... I think we still need to do this as the LONG-TERM memory (i.e., 03 PERCENT L 337.9) is incorrect anyway.

Is it possible that removing / shorting the battery will remove this weird percentage anyway and make the fruit machine go back to its factory settings ?

just a thought...

If you do short the battery, it may reset the ram or just blow the mpu.

I dont think it will reset the VTP, I dont know how to! Im just looking thru my MPU4 Manual, and will come back to you!

Wish I had a manual!

Yeah, DON'T short the battery. The fact they told you to short a battery means that I wouldn't deal with them. You could cause some serious problems if you do that. Ive seen batteries chopped off some machines, including my Cluedo SWP. That basically means it did a factory reset when you turned the machine on...hurting your chances of winning.

Kebab shop machines anyone? Without turning the machine off, unplugging it for say 10mins, then plugging it back in and switching it back on you wouldn't have a clue :)

Thanks everyone for the advice

Especially with the battery shorting !!!

The word 'shorting' scared me anyway - it always comes with dread and gloom when you 'short' something out !!!

Adam - thanks for the manual, but it's 22 bytes (0 when unpacked) - could you try attaching it again please !!

Also, I tried connecting the two loose wires to the red connector - the machine now responds to the DIP switches (i.e., i've set the target percentage to 84% and the machine display tells me it's now set to 84% - previously it was set to 70% no matter what DIP switch setting I had it on) - again thanks for that !!!

It's indeed another step closer to being a fully working fruit machine - just the matter of the putting the fruit machine back to 'factory settings'

regards

Jason
