Help please please please anyone, my kids have been bashing buttons on my laptop and now i'm left with a screen thats like this :
Imagine my screen is say 20 by 20
my main desktop has sort of been squeezed into 15 by 18
then the screen repeats itself so i've got a duplicate start of a screen on the right handside plus a small duplicate bit running across the middle.
Screen Resoltion adjustment just alters the text e,t,c but doesn't get rid of this duplicate problem. :nah::arghh:

Right click your desktop and choose Personalise at the bottom.

Click on Desktop Background

Where it says "Choose how picture should be positioned", select the fullscreen with the blue dot on the lefthand picture

That should sort it. :)

Hang on i'll try, doesn't seem to like print screen for some reason, also right clicking on desktop doesn't give me the properties option, personalize is there instead. Is that the same thing??

I've done that, I can see the screen size changing but it's not altering this dodgy duplication thing

Print screen won't show you the problem, i've managed to suss how out to do it but when I look at it in photobucket it looks like a normal screen, doesn't show the 1 inch black line thats down the screen about 4 inches from the right, then the screen starts to repeat.
Put it this way when I move the arrow cursor to the left handside of my screen It also shows on the right handside at the same time.
Same with if I put it up at the top it shows at the very bottom. Never seen anything like it.

Perhaps system restore would help get it back to normal:D

I tried that, now did I do something wrong here?? I searched for system restore and clicked on it but it didn't give me a date option?? just came up straight away "need to shut down to system restore, do not switch off during restore blah blah" then shut down and started up but know change??
Aren't you suppose to have an option of when to restore to??

Has your monitor got an auto-adjust on it? It could be, especially with you mentioning the black line to the edges of your desktop that you monitor hasn't adjusted to the desktop screen. Most monitors have these buttons that allow you to do this, if that is indeed the trouble. If it isn't that, then I am sorry, without seeing it, I cannot help anymore.

System restore done to 4 days ago but still the problem is here, it's exactly how you say Daryl, it isn't fitting to the screen, so it's repeating itself to complete the screen. Never seen anything like it before and i've been messing about since 5pm trying to fix it.

there should be a key called FN in the bottom left corner

press & hold that then press the print screen key

should work

Do you have an sis VGA icon on your desktop or in your programme files i use this to change my screen size. It's quicker than using the personalize menu if so open it and try and set your screen size through this could work.

this is probably a ridiculous suggestion, but on most computers there is a magnifier program that lets you zoom in on things, and it shows 2 things usually the zoomed in bit and not zoomed in so you get 2 of the same thing basically. perhaps this is running in the background without you knowing? probably not the solution but worth a try.

Does your laptop have a seperate VGA out? To a stand-alone PC monitor? If it does, try it on a second monitor. If the picture is still broken, it would seem like a graphics error. If it isn't, the screen image is fine, it would seem like a physical laptop screen problem. Not the greatest advice in the world, but it may whittle down what potential problem it could be.
