The 5 day hump is the hardest part.(NOT A BLOODY WORD, VAMP!);)

After that, it's a lot easier to walk past an arcade after that, I feel:)
Good luck fella, if you are still finding it hard we are always happy to be of assistance.

This is a site for EMULATION purposes of older machines. Not playing strategies.
If you are more interested in playing modern machines,

(DOND is around now on this site..... How long was this sig out of date...!)

Good luck quitting the puggies it aint easy but if you do lapse don't blame yourself too much its easy to fall off the waggon so to speak just try harder next time do you have a parent/spouse that can help? Way I kicked the bottle (I used to drink about 3 times what I do now) is by getting my dad to come to the shop to get the booze that way if (for example) theres a case of beer £10 for 24 cans rather than drink 24 I'd rashion it over a few nights Dad would give me the cans at about 6pm to chill em for 9pm.

Way to do this with gambling is to give them your card and draw out say £100 for the week give the cash and card back to them and then ask for say £10 for the day that way if you do gamble it away most you can possibly lose is a tenner that way you learn self discipline.

Also get a punchbag if you get bored or lapse you can take out the rage on that it worked for me :)

I ain't told my missus cos she'll worry. But she's the best reason i've got for giving up. We don't live together at the mo but i guess when we do i'll cut down. She hates them so i'll get earache if i play them when we go out so that'll be better still :D.

I'd be honest to her in your shoes if she hates them as you say she can only ever be supportive in this.

Guess so mate. But she's got a lot on her plate at mo. She's the big reason why i wanna cut down. It's good to talk to people who've been there. I guess if one good thing comes out of something like that it's you can use the experience to help other people.

Thats your dirty mind not mine. :)
When did I get a rep as a sarky twat?

As for the £700 loss, hard as it is you'll have to take it on the chin.
Hopefully this will spur you on to get help. Good luck mate.

I followed the link to the gamcare site and honestly answered yes to every question on it so no I have a problem.
Thing is though i dont have an urge to go on machines all the time, I get paid monthly though n as soon as the money is in the bank I go on them, if I dont have the money I dont really feel I need to, that is probably coz I no I cant coz I aint got the money. I need to quit them but I get such a surge of adrenalin noin Im goin to play them when ive got money I dont seem to care if I win or lose its quite scary to me.
I used to be schitzophenic but were ok now.

If ya like me, machines are the reason ya ain't got the money. But ya can't wait to play them, all part of the addiction. It is like a 'fix' that you need. The money burns a hole in ya pocket. My wages never used to last half the month but i'm getting a bit better now. When you stop playing for fun and you play cos you have to, that's when you know your addicted.

You lose track of how much your putting in. I know i do sometimes. You go in with a wad of notes, get change and carry on till you've got nowt left. I never used to be able to leave an arcade with £1 left, i had to keep going till i lost it all. No matter how much i won.

I'm getting to the stage now where i am starting to 'see the light'. It's took a long time but i'm getting there. I can just put a few quid in and walk away with a bit left in my pocket. It is scary, but not at the time. Only when you stop and think about it afterwards. I hated it when i saw something in a shop i wanted and thought "if only i hadn't spent X amount in the arcade i could've treated myself".

When you gamble only take in money you can afford to lose - DO NOT take in your cash card or credit card - When you lose it all you will only have lost a small amount leaving you money to take out the missus and pay the bills. Remember you have to live after you walk out of an arcade.

You are not the first person to waste £700 and won't be the last. Lesson is - Agree a budget and stick to it (no matter what).

You and me both mate. I'm just starting to get sorted and i don't want to end up like i was before. I've got a wedding to pay for. Like i put earlier on, i guess it's easier to give up if you've got something to aim at. I know i have now. When it's not just yourself that's gonna end up in brown stuff if you don't cut down i guess that can make ya see sense.

I have been in the same situation before and I'm sure (because they have said so in this thread) that many others have too. Its not a nice feeling and I have had to walk home many a time because of the bandits. I only play casually now. I get paid in cash once a week and I play with whatever comes in coins but never change up a note. 2 weeks running I've left the arcade £40 up thanks to a bar-x 10. This is enough for me as times are pretty tight and its such a novel feeling leaving the arcade up or only down by an affordable amount.

I also put spare change I have into my own machines and spend that money once a year normally just before my birthday. That money is my set aside gambling money and normally totals £150-£200 Its a lot of money to blow on machines but I save up for it over the year and I go out safe in the knowledge that I can spend the lot and still go home with my bills paid and food n the cupboards.

I personally have never phoned gamecare because I don't think I would listen to what they said but if you think it would help you then try calling them. Theres also GA if you need to keep things on the QT,

I too had a massive problem i started a thread not long back. I was spending every penny i had on machine and spending money that was not mine ie my partners cash. It put a lot of pressure on the relationship and to be honest my ex put up with a lot and gave me chance after chance. I am the one who has lost out now as i dont see my little boy jack and have not done for just over six months. This and the fact i never had any money all got too much for me one day and i decided that that i wanted to end it all. I bought a bottle of vodka got my anti depressants and cained the lot. after i did it i shat myself and rode to the hospital i never maid it. i woke up 2 days later in hospital with my family sat round me. I had no idea what had happened until i was told by the doctor. I felt so ashamed that i decided enough was enough and that i was going to do my best to give up. Since then i have played one machine and spent only £3. I am now trying to sort myself out to prove to my ex that i have changed and that i want to be a part of my sons life. Machines are pure evil if U cant control what your doing on them. I had to go see the doctor and he said that the only thing he could do was to give me numbers for gamcare and GA. The NHS need to see that gambling is a massive problem and that people need some sort of specialist treatment. like what people on drugs or alcohol get. I feel so much better now as i can buy things i want and not have to worry about my bills all the time. it has taken so much pressure om and has made me more chilled out to. u have just got to try that little bit more and u will get there in the end i promise

yeah i can relate to this as well, going into the arcade and blowing most of me wages week in week out, and getting loans to clear all me bills and
just getting sick of it all, walking home after losing the lot some days and it"s pishing down outside to add to me misery... thankfully theses days i have got it down to playing only when i can afford to play( paying all me bills and getting food in the cupboards).first...and only playing about £20/£30....which is about once every couple of months..i hardly ever play the lottery or go to the bookies either, the occasional placepot for a couple of quid just for an interest ..

finding something to do instead of blowing all my money was the priority
and i"m glad that i did.. i hadn"t played golf for a while and my brother in law asked me if i wanted to have a round(me of course was just getting ready to go the arcade and probably lose again) decided to go for a game... bloody glad i did i realised that i missed the game so much ( after amlmost destroying me life playing puggies). so after the round of golf i got a membership for the course ( £500 for the season) with the cash i had on me to originally go to the arcade, so i went home skint but happy that i had actually done something with me hard earned money for once in my life..that was 2 years ago. my golf ain"t any better but at least i ain"t feeling so low as i did playing the puggies..

wullie ( original poster) said it was boredom was the main reason for chucking all his money in, perhaps you need a hobby mate try golf it will drive ya nuts ( all you will worry about is trying to hit that darn little ball
staight down the middle) plus you will be out in the fresh air for around 4 hours...( keeps you out the arcade)..believe me it"s the best thing i have done ...

you may get a big win but remember someone has had to put the money in first you are only winning someone elses cash, the machine has to play to percentage, but you may only just get lucky, you may not!
