#251970 Windows 7 Help (malware)

Posted by nails on 29 May 2013 - 12:43 PM in Any Topic Chat

well, its not for me to call your 70 yr old neighbour a dirty bastard BUT these sort of infections are not picked up on the likes of wild flower sites.....

I fixed my neighbours PC with the exact same thing nails ' Stop Police !! you have been downloading child porn ' and all that stuff , poor guy , hes in his 70's was shiting himself..telling me i swear i didnt do that...

I believed him , and took a bit of convincing that it was a malware/virus type thing and there was nothing to worry about..he was going to pay the £60 or whatever it was .. just glad he came to me first.

But yes that was an utter shit to remove..even though it was deleted it reinstalled itself in the startup..took me a good hour or 2 to shift it.

#251919 Windows 7 Help (malware)

Posted by nails on 28 May 2013 - 04:53 PM in Any Topic Chat

i had a pc to fix last month, which i confess was the worst infection ive ever dealt with. some screen about a violation of downloads and if you pay some £80 it will be removed....

eventually i booted to dos and was able to remove a specific file. once that was done i could then load the virus killer/malware program.

its not easy to remove some of these little buggers, but if your confident with dos there is nothing that you cannot fix.

#263464 windows 7 error

Posted by nails on 05 February 2014 - 11:18 PM in Any Topic Chat

defragging wont repair a drive.

#263459 windows 7 error

Posted by nails on 05 February 2014 - 09:47 PM in Any Topic Chat

just let it boot as per normal (you may have to leave it for an hour while it performs the check). once finished let windows load and when its settled backup your files either copy your files manually or use a program like acronis to make a 1:1 copy of the drive.

#282057 Windows 10 free upgrade reserve icon

Posted by nails on 07 June 2015 - 07:04 PM in Any Topic Chat

As the title suggests, I noticed the icon when i came home from a recent business trip.

i clicked on it and reserved my free upgrade. it took me a long long time to fully migrate from XP. even them i installed a hack to make it look and feel like xp. now like almost everybody else we have upgraded and find ourselves wondering what all the fuss was about. ive heard rumours about win10 like everybody else.

personally i think it will be great. ive heard there could be a facility that does a clean install by un-installing every program, cleaning up the crap left over in the registry and then putting the programs back. if its true it could be awesome.

#284250 windows 10 - upgrade removal

Posted by nails on 28 September 2015 - 02:37 PM in Any Topic Chat

hmm, the upgrade came back. right the point where it says scedle later or install now. ive deleted 3 KB updates and disabled updates. whilst it has offically stopped it, its also stopped updates full stop.

im considering a couple of fast SSD cards in a raid and be done with the revo card :(

bye bye 1.3TB per second :(

#284134 windows 10 - upgrade removal

will have to one day, apparently windows 10 is the be all and end all - no windows 11 etc, just apdates

#284265 windows 10 - upgrade removal

Posted by nails on 29 September 2015 - 07:21 AM in Any Topic Chat

basically the update had gone as far as i accepted it but not pressed reset to upgrade. at that point i did (thankfully) a backup. since ive accepted it, uninstalling those updates seems futile.

#284127 windows 10 - upgrade removal

Posted by nails on 22 September 2015 - 07:15 PM in Any Topic Chat

sorted m8, i uninstalled the KB3038853 and then, after successfully stopping the upgrade process, ran the disk clean tool

nice one!

#284144 windows 10 - upgrade removal

Posted by nails on 23 September 2015 - 04:21 PM in Any Topic Chat

im sure win10 is fine, its just im using a revodrive3 x2 which is a raid card.

windows 7 cannot read from this without installing drivers (which is odd because the computer itself sees the device on startup and goes straight to it).

windows 10 is supposed to have these drivers buit-in, but alas after the upgrade there are several reboots and at this point windows errors appeared such as device is unavailable.

cut short i placed an image back over it of win7, removed the said update and everything is fine again in the nails camp.

one day i shall have to update, but it will have to be a clean install :(

#284594 windows 10 - upgrade removal

Posted by nails on 17 October 2015 - 06:38 AM in Any Topic Chat

basically i went through the upgrade procedure, clicked yes to install - then it installed and corrupted. when i salvaged the install, it reported it was imminently upgrading.

the solution was to remove said updates, delete the win10 directory THEN continue with the upgrade. win10 dir has gone so the upgrade fails.

now remove and hide the updates and windows only shows the free upgrade as an option you can hide. job done

thanks for all input and replies!

#284118 windows 10 - upgrade removal

Posted by nails on 22 September 2015 - 06:03 PM in Any Topic Chat

Ive done the windows 10 upgrade and it killed my system. i heavily suspect that it couldnt update the MBR and also accommodation the OCZ drivers for the revodrive 3 x2

lucky for me i did a full backup just before i pressed upgrade - however...

Your upgrade is ready to install - save your work blah blah blah      #schedule it for later#   #start the upgrade now#

in other words all the files are on my windows 7 system, but i wish to cancel and remove the files, but there is no option for it?

glad its worked out for you

#283430 Windows 10

Posted by nails on 23 August 2015 - 08:06 PM in Any Topic Chat

ive heard some very bad reviews about windows 10.

the last big thing i read was that windows itself can detect and disable pirate games?  couple that with dire memory leaks - i think i`ll stick with win7

#261140 Winamp will be NO MORE!

Posted by nails on 23 November 2013 - 08:22 AM in Any Topic Chat

just read through the site re:closure and it says that given every pc is not shipped with a media player - whats the big fuss then?

if i downloaded the latest pro version off iptorrents, what will it do that media player and videoLAN cannot ?

#282703 Will these machines ever be emulated?

Posted by nails on 15 July 2015 - 05:31 PM in General FME Discussion

take him to court ?

AFAIK MAME said they would let him release his emulator, using parts of MAME, providing he gave them the source code. he said no so they said no release from him then.

is that right?

#282691 Will these machines ever be emulated?

Posted by nails on 14 July 2015 - 07:24 PM in General FME Discussion

do we not think that MAME merely threw their toys out of the pram on this one?  I mean, wizard used parts of mame to make, what we saw from the video, a fantastic multi-platform emulator?  MAME pull the rug beneath his feet (arguably because its theirs and they can) and then do nothing afterwards???? its just seemed a really mute point. MFME doesn't fringe on video games or consoles etc.

rant over

#282666 Will these machines ever be emulated?

Posted by nails on 12 July 2015 - 06:22 PM in General FME Discussion

sorry if ive said this before (like a million times) but I just don't get why wizard put all that work into an emulator that he has no plans to release. once guitar wilfully incorporates each tech it makes mfme more redundant
