Has any one ever played this old classic (not to be confused with Each Way Nudger).

It has a gamble on the left and 3 reels. Above the reels on the display are a line of "W I N" letters (vertical) Jackpot melons and the feature would activate "randomly" and you had a certain amount of "shifts" to line up the letters "win" for different amounts.

The cheat was if you got a hold holding the left reel would bring down the centre reel by one fruit.

Several other "tap the hold then press start" cheats made the reels more predictable and the cycle for the machine was quite short.

If money in bank, the second reel would come down 2 fruits.

There was also a "trick" where if you had no money in bank, but wanted second reel down 2 fruits you could tap the left reel hold and very quickly (miliseconds) after that press start.

Very fast gamble would go to jackpot several times in a row on streak.

Also had "stars" where appearance of the stars on any desplay level (more than one) would activate a win.

Very fun game, especially if you knew the tricks...

Yes I remember these - I can't remember who made them though, but I do recall that MDM did a version of it a while back - lacking all the charm and excitement of the original though.

These were everywhere in Weston some 12 or more years ago, 4 or 5 per arcade. I never played them much because they were too expensive for me. The only time I played them was when I had some tokens and couldn't think of anything else to put them in.

Everyone used to rave about the little cheats you described, and when they streaked they were brilliant - big holds on the jackpot. It was exciting when you got a shift - loads of different tunes used to play.

Only problem was that the glass on them used to break easily. I saw 2 or 3 removed due to people punching them and putting the glass through. Others must have succumbed to strimming or lack of spares. Suddenly they all just vanished from the face of the earth!

Great games though :) They had real depth - plenty of stuff to find out. You don't get stuff like that any more...

i cant remember who made the original super shifter maybe it was electrocoin or summit coin or maybe jpm?

mdm did bring out a conversion kit for the later super shifter and i did have one of these a year or so ago.

it was a good play but i got bored of it to quick

i prefere the original to the mdm version as it was a much better looking machine than the mdm machine

wow, thanks for the great responses. The music on these machines was awesome. And the sound FX of the fruits "swishing" in was excellent 2. Jackpot melons would some times hold 5 to 8 times in a row. This machine beats out all the other junk copycat machines with lame features.

Don't think so.  Great to see a pic though.  CMS - always wondered who made them, I thought it would be an obscure manufacturer like Associate Leisure or something.  Very bespoke cabinet - I wonder what the tech was?  Possibly MPU3 with that alpha display.  No idea if there are any ROMs available.  Would make a great redraw project for someone, better than trying to do a DX out of that pic.

The only version of Each Way Shifter that's emulated is the newer, MDM version.  I did a DX for it in 2010.  Here it is if you don't already have it.

The original version is still a bit of a mystery.  Pretty sure I saw them, back in the day, but we haven't' got anything, rom-wise, unfortunately.  If I were to guess I would say MPU4 tech.  I don't think MPU3 had £4 jackpot machines.
