just got a disc with loads of roms on it but every time i load mfme it opens up i scan the roms then select which game i want to play then it just hangs and locks my pc up tried the latest one updated direct x but still no joy.......

Where did you get the disk from? I would download a couple of layouts from this site and check them out first.

Which version of MFME as there are quite a few.
If you are trying to load up a game that will not work in the version you are running it may hang.
Also don't forget that until the machine boots-up the emu may appear to have crashed (I tried a few games on V9.4 and it looks as if the programme is not responding - then 30 seconds later the screen appears, might be due to a large graphics file been used for the artwork)
