OK It's 2 in the morn(Don't ask why I've been up or it'll ruin the thread!) And I fancy a discussion...So why do we download the emulators and layouts? We all know the basic kist of it....Because we're interested etc but which of my crazy categories do you fall under?
I fall under the entertainment category. If it has lots of features and gameplay, it'll amuse me for a long time! Thats generally what I think of the emulations.

For me i just love fruit machines.... loved them as soon as i played one..... trouble is these days they rip you off so much that i cant afford to lose £50+ in 15 minuites lol, takes all the fun out of it really.
These emulations bring me the emjoyment and i can still afford to pay the rent at the end of the month;)

For me it's several reasons.
1) Because when I started playing was just before the £25 Jackpot came in, so I had no real idea of what older machines were like to play.
2) Because I had such rotten luck on some machines and the emulators give me a chance to appreciate how shite some machines can really be, without wasting any more of my real money.
3) For a laugh. I mean you can do things in the emulator I'd certainly never consider in real life. Like when I did the 'Your Lucky Knight' DX a while back, I put about £300 in and reset every time it offered a board. For about 8 boards in a row, without it being an actual IM (not flashing, no 'By Jove!') you could gamble any way on any number and you'd win the JP every time.
Thats probably my 3 main reasons.
I voted for Entertainment because in the end I guess if it wasn't entertaining I wouldn't play them or design them!

In all honesty i dont play the emulations much
*pauses for dramatic effect*
I know it might sound odd to be a part of the community but not play em but thats not really why i remained here. I play fruities when out and have been playing them for many many years but I have never been as avid player as many here. I think i've only stepped foot in an arcade a few times in my life!
However when i came over and found the FME community i found it to be one of the most entertaining commmunitys i had seen on the web. Some good people (some bad by we cant be picky
) and generally always plenty worth reading.
Thats not to say i dont play the emulations at all but i would say i quite often go a week without even firing up MFME......

Just love to play them for the fun getting to play the features, plus I love listening to all the barmy sound FX and tunes they pump out.

i played them when i was bored or because i wanted to play some old classics like razzle dazzle.
ironically, the new taboo releases (apart from CF) to me, have absolutely no playability. £30 in £25 out.
back to razzle dazzle...

I play purely for nostalgia. Not because old machines have gone from the arcades but simply to bring back memories from years gone by. When I was a lad so to speak.
I didn't see an option for nostalgia.

Keep in mind this was done at around 2 in the morning...;)I would have added some other choices that I forgot on the spur of the moment such as Learning about the machine and Gratitude to designers...But I dont know how to edit a poll as soon as its done!I play purely for nostalgia. I'll make my next poll at a more suitable time I think!

Being 40something, my interest in emulation is purely for the fun of playing all the machines from my youth. Most machines these days are as boring as f**k and have no gameplay whatsoever (How many times on "Hill Billionaire" or "Nuns and Roses" does it have to go from 11 to 12 or 2 to 1 on the gamble before you realise it's taking the piss). I would rather bung £20 (OK I know it's only virtual money) through "Open the Box", "Autoroute", & "Razzle Dazzle" these days - ahh the 80's, a golden age in fruit machine development (IMO).
