I'm finally looking into getting broadband... I think I may have found the ISP I fancy using... PlusNet. ( http://www.plus.net )

I was wondering if anyone here uses this ISP and if so if you've had any problems with them or whatever? - as their site is very impressive bu I've seen a load of pretty poor reviews of them whilst browsing the net, but loads of them seem to be quite old - so, not very helpful.

Any info would be great! Cheers :)

just seen this post and chatted with an adviser, seems pretty good value I'm currently with BT with a 2mb connection. Plusnet is £3 cheaper a month with a 30:1 contention ratio and no dload cap whereas BT is £24.99 50:1 ratio no dload cap at mo but supposed to be starting anytime so got the thumbs up from me to migrate over also no charge to change over so definately seems a pretty good choice. Forgot to mention u get 250mb of web space that accepts php, cgi, frontpage extensions and for a quid u get a .co.uk addy. So all in all semms spot on! Only thing i forgot to ask about is if u get an email addy but no big deal if you don't

With PlusNet, for £14.99p/m, you get

- Unlimited 2MB Broadband (256k upstream)
- Unlimited Number of email addresses & Mailboxes
- A 50:1 network connection
- 100 MB web space & 100MB bandwidth for website
- .co.uk domain available for £1 extra p/m
- Spam filtering & email virus protection
- Ability to disable P2P access
- Priority given to web browsing & email at peek usage times
- 24/7 technical support via local rate call or email (tried this already - you actually get a proper response! Not some automated thing!)
- Access to cool online tools: Organiser & PostCode Finder
- Backup un-metered dialup access should there be any problems with the broadband service
- Backup 0845 access so you can get on the net away from home

I've been with PlusNet for over 3 years now and Force9 before that (part of PlusNet). I started on their 512Mbit service then went to 1Mb, 2Mb and soon to 8Mb. Over the 3 years I have never had a single problem with speeds or disconnections.

If you want to go with them then let me know and I can send you a referal, its worth a whopping 50p to me!

I like the look of PlusNet, considering switching my ISP now :).

Only one thing is putting me off and that's the free setup thing - £58.75 is payable but is reduced by £11.75 per year so if you stay for 5 years then the setup is free..... I'm not sure if I would be staying with them for 5 years but I suppose even if you cancel after say 3 years then the setup is still cheaper than paying upfront. The same applies to the free modem, £25 which is reduced by £5 a year

-EDIT- Duplu, myself and a mate are considering moving to PlusNet, so will get a couple of referral links off you after weighing up the pros and cons.

Plusnet are excellent. Been with them for about 18 montha now, migraed from Virgin broadband, which is pretty poor. Never had a connection problem in 18 months, and the customer support is excellent and they always reply within 24 hours. Not like virgin when it took them over 3 weeks to reply to my email!

My verdict, GET PLUSNET!!!

When you sign up for an account with PlusNet there is a space to put in the username of the person who referred you. Simply put duplu in the space and its sorted :)

Just seen this...

I'm with PlusNet and while i would agree that they are great when you don't have any problems, be warned, they suck when you do. I have been fortunate in that i have only ever had problems twice but both times i ended up telling them what their problem was. I have been with them for my entire time on ADSL btw - 2 years. Was on NTL cable before that and i have to say that was terrible in comparison!!! They even billed me for months after i left - or rather they tried, obviously i cancelled the payments as soon as i got wind of it :)

Their (PN's) solution was ALWAYS to switch the router off for an hour and switch it back on again. Kinda awkward when a) you know it won't help the problem and B) you're meant to be working on a vpn at the time (back then i WAS on a business package with them - i'm not now, i just switched to a residential package to take advantage of the 2mbit).

Also, the 30:1 contention is only on their portion of the network. You will still be provisioned on a 50:1 line at the exchange. What impact this will have will depend on the capacity at your particular exchange - there is an exchange checker at http://usertools.plus.net/exchanges/ (poss. members only but i don't think so).

Don't get me wrong - i think i would still recommend them, but you should be aware of these points. It's not all roses!!

Their user forums are here: http://portal.plus.n...orums/index.php

You should be able to login using the user and password both as "guest". Take a look for yourself. There is a LOT of unrest amoungst their customers right now.

Judge for yourself.

Regards,
Martin.
