If you fancy a winning some money at online poker (multitable tournaments) I've discovered this.........
1) Don't take betting personally. If someone hits you hard you are still ony as good as the cards in your hand. Play with your head at all times...you play to win not to knock individuals out of the game.
2) 2 Aces in the hole doesnt mean you'll win. Odds are in your favour but remember the average winning hand in any game is 3 9's. BE PREPARED TO FOLD EVEN IF YOU THINK YOU MAY HAVE THE BEST HAND!!!!
3) Don't bet high early on in the tournament. As long as you have 10x the mimimum bet you can relax. Let others take the risks. If you try and frighten people off pots the chances are someone will call leaving you wide open to an early exit. If you are a loose player (that is you'll play less strong hands) call hands only in at the start of a tourney when the blinds are low. Pay as little as possible to see the flop.....if someone raise let it go unless you have a very strong hand. Many times people call raises because they've made an initial call when ordinarily they would have not bet that much.
4) Position is very important. Being last to act has distinct advantages as you can judge the strength of other people hands. If the majority of people fold and you have a strong hand you stand a better chance as you will be playing against less players. I find in one on ones pre-folp it is best to play aggressive.
5) REMEMBER THIS!!!! A call doesnt always mean weakness and a bet doesnt indicate strength. Calling when you have a good hand doesnt give your hand away. If you raise keep strong unless the flop is hopeless. I find it best to let other people take the lead unless you want to delibrately want to bet someone off a hand. This tactic is best used later in the tournament when people want to play to protect they chips to get in the money. If you have a very strong hand or the nuts (the best possible hand) chances are someone else will bet strong through inexperience or trying to bluff. Act like youve limped into to a hand and they like you are trying to buy yourself out on the river by going ALL IN. Chances are you've played like you have a weak hand ealier and they will call.
6) People will play fast and loose ealy in tournaments. I've experimented on Williams Hill 1000 player FREEROLL tournaments. You can simply not bet for the first hour and be comfortably in 300th place with 500 players out. Watch what people do who last.....they only play QQ, KK, AA, or suited AK, AQ, AJ. Even on these hands dont bet high or raise to see the flop....just let it go and watch another 20 players loose and leave the tourney giving you 20 less people to worry about.
7) Relax but concentrate. on the 200/400 players tournaments you need approx 3-4 hours. Be they're for the long haul.
8) The chips leader in the early stages very rarely win. They get complacent and bully a person with a the nuts and get stung.
9) If the tourney pays the top 20 places keep and eye on your position and that of those who are short stacked. Often people will cling on to making 20th place. If you have a decent chips you can take adavantage of this. People would often rather fold a when short stacked to try and get paid.
10) If you are a newer player join tourney which a less popular. That is, those that have fewer players enter. You stand a better chance of winning.
11) Alternate the speed in which you press the call/raise button...this can sway things in your favour but I'll let you work out how.
There is much more but I can't give everything away....
And I've won 6 Tourneys @ £2.25 200 player tournaments with many top 10, more top 20's and yet more non paying positions...I guarantee that if I had followed the above info, with a little help with cards you can't really go wrong.
