Yeah I was reading about this earlier in the week. It's no wonder people have stopped playing.

They really need to re-evaluate how the prizes are distributed - the top prize is too big and the other prize funds too small.

Plus the price of play doubled, and they added more numbers.

What a con!

So true, I run a syndicate at work.

When the price doubled we spoke and decided to carry-on.

Since the additional ball's we are now thinking of either the Health Lotto (or sad to say) a Foreign One via the Net.

This is simply bloody crazy....Wrong even!

It's a disgrace but sadly because a minority still pursue that life changing dream!-the fat cat lotto people keep on making the many millions, many of it's customers will never see!!

I never understand why there are top prize pots of £millions and then 1 ticket holder collects!

Wouldn't it be better to give a share of this to several hundred people and say win £100,000 each?

Most people won't see £10,000 in there life time(in there hands as a lump sum) let alone £24 million as above in your post :err:

It is sadly (in my view )based in part upon greed, grasping at a straw that will for most people be permanently out of reach!

I used to run a syndicate was when the lottery began.

I would collect the money 4weekly and at first all 11 members would pay-no problems. Around 4 months into the syndicate, people were coming upto me and saying "CAN i GIVE YOU THE MONEY NEXT TIME ROUND"!

For a while I paid it in myself but on a  hourly rate then of a mere (£3.12 an hour!)-I did start to struggle so in the end I called it a day.

Stupidly I kept the numbers(never putting the money on again!)-and around two weeks after I stopped the syndicate, our numbers came up in the form of 5 numbers and the bonus-we would have had around £18,000 each!!!!! :nah:

I swallow the phrase "Was not meant to be "-with a bitter after taste.

And this shows in two ways 1,how the payouts have dropped-free fall lol.

And 2, if you are in a syndicate pay your share or drop out. And don't hold onto the numbers :bigeyes06:

Yet I don't see people quitting despite the above payouts-or lack of them!

Like most forms of gambling it is very addictive and as become more like an institution to many!

Will you be continuing the syndicate at work Ady??

Jay

I ran a sydicate at chipshop when it first started back then it was worth winning. You only had one draw then it went to two, which was OK as you had the jackpot starting at £10mil the rollover was good to, I remember one went for around £40M I stopped it when I left in 2000 and never or very rarely played since. I feel there's far to many draws each week. How many including this health lottery are there??
How many scratch card s are available they stopped fruit machines spreading everywhere I.e cafes n chippies but then cards are everywhere as said before, you can't go into a bookies or casino till you're 18 but you can gamble on the lottery n cards at 16 something not right there it needs amending, even local bingo under 18's can't claim cash even a pound lol.
I suppose you can relate the lottery greed to our other favourite, Fruit machines. These companies know we'll still gamble whatever the prize or odds of achieving the jackpot.
I'm just happy I'm not a gambler at the beginning of my downward spiral, even though I am still addicted to fruit machines and all they hold I happy to have found them when they were playable and somewhat had value for money.

From memory the National Lottery exists within it's own act? Although recognised as gambling it's treated differently to other forms, but still very tightly regulated.

Also the Health Lottery is completely separate. There was a recent legal challenge against it, probably by the Natioanl Lottery, but it wasn't upheld this time.

I used to do the lottery every Saturday with my Mam when it first came out in 1994...

Then they brought in the Wednesday draw, LottoPicks, Thunderball, Scratchcards etc and we stopped doing it completely.

After seeing that result - I'm glad we did... We only ever won £10 anyway! ;)

I can't even remember the numbers we used to put on now anyway, so I wouldn't know if they'd ever came out or not if they did!  :bigeyes19:

I stopped playing as soon as I learned about this:- http://news.bbc.co.u...ess/8588321.stm

The thought of my lottery money profits going to a teachers pension fund is bad enough but to learn that I'm paying for Canadian teachers retirement is taking the biscuit. And they sort of kept this sale quiet didn't they.

We have a lottery syndicate at work and we are considering doing the Irish lottery instead.

I gave up playing the lottery about 2 years ago.

it's a pile of sh*t and i hardly ever got anything back.

as said above it's all greed now and no fun in playing.

two pounds a shot and 59 numbers what chance do you have?

and the odds of a chance of winning anything decent are bloody shocking., they are taking the piss.

big deal if you get 2 numbers you get a free go , pathetic don't you think.?

so why bother.

was going to give the irish lottery a go, but!!!!   6 draws a week, bugger that.

talking of cons did anyone see this?

In the end the punters got the game they deserved. When it last went to the max rollovers they were selling 200 tickets per second so you can't really blame the operator for maximizing sales.

That's not to say that the regulator should not block them from making these changes but unless people stop playing altogether then low odds, large jackpots, small other prizes is what you're going to get...
