Got a couple of these units, they do appear to be for a fruit machine but are not a Data Pack (although in some ways they are similar).

They seem to be a simple interface between the machine and a computer, but why?

what makes you think their for a fruit machine? the 4 pin modular looks more like gfx card power than a fruit machine interface?

Possibly used on B3 style games, like Rainbow Riches etc?

Whatever it is, looks like some sort of splitter controller box of some sort, bit along the same sort of idea like a lamp extender board.

Just the general design and the source that they were obtained from. But no in actual fact, nothing solid. Those connectors are used fairly generically, as you point out.

Edit:

Supposition I know but could EC stand for Eurocoin?

Note as well, the wires seam to be a bit on the thick side, and the white plugs are quite common in use on PC Towers, as well as on Electrocoin kit, so another possibility I am thinking, is that it could be video game / Jamma+ related?

*EDIT* think I am on to something here when thinking about Jamma+..... splitter controller for Joystick operations on multi-player cabs?..... You have the PC like white plugs, and was very common at one time, for joystick controls to run via the RS232 port, which this box has.

That's a very good point. I'll post on Jamma+ when I have a minute.

Thing that is bugging me, in that I am pretty sure I have seen these EC type part codes from somewhere before, and my hunch is telling me Electrocoin (Though Eurocoin is another possibility), also noting that they did loads of video cab stuff back in the day.

Daft idea Alex, but have you looked at the main PCB and seen any markings that may suggest a clue as to whom at least made these units?..... Electrocoin was well known for stamping their details on to PCB's supplied by them.

Yes electrocoin is another distinct possibility, probably more likely in fact.

I haven't been able to find any identifying marks as to manufacturer anywhere. Although I didn't take the PCB out, so in theory there could be markings on the reverse of it.

Looks like a 4 channel RGB controller / splitter. Used for running the cabinet LEDs I would wager.
