I have a Impulse Hurricane fruit-machine which recently has now developed a fault.

It flashes lamps randomly but does not boot up anymore, and noticed that a LED on the main processor board isn't lit.  The speaker is also making a loud 'hissing' noise.

I have attached a video showing this - does anybody have any clues as to the problem.  The main power supply unit I have 6 green LEDs so I think it's getting the power.

thank you all

Jase

Strange on that for sure..... when an epoch board fails, normaly it will either not light up anything or it sends the hopper wappy, although it's not limited to just these faults.

Obvious check, would be to see the current state of that little green battery for leaks.

Other than that, will need to seek the assistance of another Epoch baised machine, and have the mainboard and PSU checked.

If you can get to the East Midlands Airport area (Long Eaton @ J25, M1), I can loan the assistance of my two epoch machines for testing, so we can at least see what is going off.

thanks for the response stanmarsh - that is much obliged - the battery seems fine, although it has been noticed that discontinued usage of the the machine causes a 'memory-reset' alarm to go off after about a week, so I think the battery is at its end-life.

I will look on ebay for a new processor board (i trust the other boards should be ok :¬) )

thanks again

PS thanks so much for migrating the zip file to a movie :)

Tell you what to save you poss having to buy in a new epoch board (Expect to pay around the £40 mark unfortunately), could post it down to me (Minus the rom's obviously as we don't want to loose those), I'll soak test the board in mine, and tell you the results from there, as it could save you the cost of an epoch board if that is not at fault (Although I do suspect it is).

As for the memory alarm / suspect battery, could very well be the battery is giving some strange operational issues, so to test this out, suggest you just snip off the battery for now and test the machine without it..... if it then boots, all it would need, is a new battery (For testing, the machine will be fine without it..... just ignore the mem reset alarm), which I am sure Alex (aaamusements) can help with :)

hi Stanmarsh - sorry for not getting back to you for a while - unfortunately we tried to transfer the chips off the board on to another board and in doing so bent some of the pins and broke some of the pins on the chips, therefore it is regret that we're going to scrap the machine and sell the parts on ebay as spares.

but thank you very much for you continued commitment in attempting to fix the issue.

that's always the problem with older machines I think

:)

Battery has probably leaked but it's very difficult to spot on these until you remove it.
You might even be able to see evidence of the damage on the back of the board...
