Hi troops,

My first post on here, so hi to everyone, I have read some of your posts that have unweilded some great info and been pointing me in right direction.. I had kinda always wanted a machine, guess it's just one of these things us kida techie ppl etc want to have! Now I have a machine I thought best join in the chat, hopefully get some help and participate and hopefully help some others along the way!

Amazingly I chanced across this machine as it was sitting waiting to be disposed of so I stepped in to save it LOL

Unfortunately no keys as the owner had abonded it I think, took a little persuation with the drill to bust the locks (Front opening so 1 at bottom and 2 at top, top left one when drilled acutally popped the cam off both the top left/right locks and it sprung open (prob as was gettign frustrated and put it on hammer drill to make more progress lol)) Still to do the cashbox lock but can assume nothing in there and not a priority atm.

So once opening this lovely machine I had a quick look to see what was in it so could do do research before delving in.

I thought.. Great as it had the tech manual but I have heard "it's about as much use as spare toilet paper" lol. Few bits of basic essentials I guess but barely technical to the extent needed to be able to properly repair these.

Board is a m1b and has standard (not modified) PSU

So yeh its an old maygay classic syndomes - big issue as usual battery leak, took the board out removed battery, its not as bad as some of the boards I have seen, just maybe the 7 or 8 tracks immediately below the battery look scared but think about half of them tested 'ok' can run a few wires to fix them if need be. Had drawn my own schematic for where the leads go and got most but am lost on a couple.....( I did see there was someone who uploaded some but when i tried to download it said "access denied" is this as I havent posted to the board yet perhaps? if someone could let me know and/or point me to a real schematic that would be of great help)

So symtoms.... got power on now but -12v is only light led that doesent show up, have another psu coming as even though have tried re-flowing the joints on most components it still the same, it hovers around 0.5v (could that just be a "noise" voltage or whatever u may call it (I did do electronics at college about 15 yr ago but have been confined to more plug and play of computers since ha) I had seen the relay can be a problem so thinking of changing that but looks like its soledered top and bottom of PSU board, how best to replace?

Anyway, sorry for big long post, I should have perhaps said hi to start with and could have taken it a step at atime, but hey machine open and I have already gathered a little bit of knowledge and really hoping can get a little help, equally great if anyone else around Glasgow/West Scotland with similar machine (Always nice to have someone to share/swap parts with etc when we are all trying to keep something of a certain vintage alive.

Many thanks in advance,

Joe.

Hi Joe, and welcome to the forum...

As you have probably realised by now, this tech can be very tricky to fix. It's normally the +12 volt that doesn't switch in so this sounds a bit unusual... more like PSU than MPU, but it could be a bit of both if there is battery damage...

Hi Thanks for the reply and welcome,

Have tried another PSU in it and now its the +12v light thats not coming on, does it need a new battery in order for it to boot? ( I would have thought the battery was only required for the memory function?)

Many thanks,

Joe.

Correct, the battery is not required in these for basic function, just memory retention.
