Just another sad story from the murky world that is town arcades, whether at the seaside or not. Along with sharks, crooked staff, machines being held for certain people and family members.

How many times have you won and they don't have the notes to change the coins up, or can only do £150 for those £400 worth of pound coins. Why the f*** have £500 machines, if you haven't got the notes, to even change up one £500 jackpot.

It's time they were told to clean up their act and show criteria, such as having the where with all to handle multiple £500 jackpot win on a daily basis.

I doubt they will though, because 1/ they are a dying bred and 2/ no one really cares above punter level, how these places really operate.

Can't remember the name of it Stevedude but it was a few yards down towards Burnham on Sea just after that little fairground.

Only a tiny little arcade.

You had one opposite the main gate of Pontins which was a nice little place, turn left out of the gates and go towards Burnham.

About 700 yards down on left hand side.

Stars or something to do with gold rings a bell, but the name is on the tip of my tongue!

Funny how some members on here have been saying that the owners won't change up their winnings into notes.

Sod them, I wouldn't worry about it.

On numerous occasions I would have arcades approach me and ask for their pound coins back in exchange for notes, so they could re-fill their

machines without having to pay the banks for more coins.

I used to take great pleasure in the arcades that were ran by idiots of saying.......

'No thanks, I'll keep the coins thanks'

Tell you what, THAT used to piss them off.

I won 3 £500 jackpots in Looe Cornwall a few years ago all in space of 1 hour.

I changed up coins in the past, my money disappeared out the back and I knew damn well what I had won.

5 minutes later they brought my notes out, but £50 short, by which time all the coins had gone into a big bag and I couldn't prove otherwise.

I stood there for over an hour arguing with them and eventually got my money back after making them count the whole bag.

SO, when I won that £1500, I was approached 'oh would you like to change that for notes?'

No, I'll keep them for my machine at home I think.

Just something to bear in mind, because it does annoy them, especially when they won't do it for you, but you do it to them.

On the left, just before the Leisure Park?

Probably Stardust then, which was Sunnyholt until JNC bought it about 12 years ago.  It turned into an absolute shit-hole, piled high with whatever JNC were selling at the time, all badly maintained and on shit payouts.  The staff worked stupidly long hours and were treated like shit.

Stardust is now owned by someone else and is a much nicer place.

whilst coming back from a meeting, I popped into an arcade in West St Brighton. In fact it only has one now.

anyway, I put a colossal £280 between two new £100 jackpot machines and was playing money mad martians at the same time. within the last £3 it did a £100 which repeated and then £10 later did it again for a cool £400. the machine next to did  similar but was around £300 - nice profit thank you.

when I asked to cash up the coins he exclaimed that I was always winning and that he was fed up of `looking over his shoulder` than that I should finished my credits and leave.

I was bloody furious to say the least, he said nothing of the time I did £700 straight through a mega bars or the countless times ive done my bollox. I guess hes actually done me a favour and in the final hour I was able to rake some money back.  his loss.

In regards to the gaming commission, how on earth is gaming to be conducted in a fair and open way when scrupulous operators don't want you to win at all, let along be given a chance to get your money back ?  I though the point of these some what random machines is that you just press start and there is nothing you can do to help the outcome.

if I had left £5 previous, some lucky punter would have won £400 but that would have been fine?

It has happened to me on numerous occasions!!!

So I sympathise with your incident.

Bottom line arcades have always wanted players who have not one clue of how a slot works-hence they lose whatever they stake and walk away and/or lose some more.

That's not before they are plied with meals, beverages and promos to entice them back in :nah:

Arcades are at a slight disadvantage now with the £100-£500 jackpots and there randomness, however because most mainstream operators have a core mix of stake/prize payouts they will always attract people who are prepared to lose a few quid and entice them to come back and lose some more!

It may not be the case on the coast, but town centre arcades will always thrive on there local punters, who they have more than likely trapped in there promotion web.

I rare go into arcades now,but because of past miss adventures,I try to stick to arcades that know me. I don.t then feel like big brother is watching me.!

One story I recall in slot land!,was my visit to Wigan I think(can't be sure as been to so many towns!) anyhow I will always join an arcades promotion(if they have any). So I joins and gets something like put 5 in and we match 5. I gets nothing!-surprise! But I decide to chance £20 on a £500 slot-luck of the Irish.

Few spins in,I get the pot feature and win silver-£369!! Happy days. The attendant changes me coins,I play a few more and leave.

I walk around the corner and there is another arcade(same company),so I goes in and tries £20 again on the same slot. From the minute I entered the arcade, the old hag on duty was like a security guard in a supermarket, watching my every move! I said" Is there a problem" to her. "No! she bellowed, but ive had a call"

"Had a call!" I said,"what over me-I laughed"  "Yes,over you" she replied.

The women in the previous arcade had alerted her as I been new to the arcade, and was deemed suspicious because of my win.!!wtf!!!!

I told the women in the 2nd arcade with the attitude she had,I wondered how she had anybody play in the arcade!! I left soon after, and she continued to mumble under her breath.

I think what more bugs me with that as im sure it does you,Nails is the fact you are being judged, when you have done nothing wrong.

£700 in coins-you must have been well weighed down!!-but good for you walking with the coins

Jay

That story about changing up being £50 short reminds me of one of the very few times I ever managed to turn the tables so to speak. It was at one of those rubbish fairground arcades that you get (do they still exist?) where half the reels are out of line and only 1 bulb in 4 works properly. It was back in the days of £3 token jackpots and old style big 10ps.

Me and a mate had been playing a variety of old machines (MoneyGame etc) and losing quite a bit to failed payouts, stuck collect/gamble buttons, skill chances where only the first few lights actually worked etc. Total fluke, we managed to get a payout run of cashpots from a Top Pot. I think it was about £6 in all but it felt like a fortune with all those 10ps.

When we went up to change it back into notes (yeah £1 notes were still around!) the lazy bloke behind the counter said something along the lines of "I'm not stacking all those up" so we offered to do it for him. We stacked the first one up to 90p instead of £1 and then made the others the same size so we ended up a massive extra 50-60p up! OK, not am amazing profit but at least for once we managed to come away up from the change booth :).

That was it 'Stardust'

Didn't realise it had been bought by another company, but then saying that I haven't been there for over 15 years, so that wouldn't surprise me!  LOL

Yes it was a bit of a dump to say the least.

Saying that I worked in Pontins for about 6 months and couldn't take it no more (my god what a place)

They had loads of token machines of which you could buy things on site with them, I used to collect loads and buy my tea with them!

That arcade wasn't too bad actually and neither was the one opposite, but used to love a trip to Burnham when I could.

Could never decide what was best, the one on the seafront or the pavilion up the road?

** BTW KEEP HITTING QUOTE TO A POST BUT NOT COMING UP**

ANY IDEA WHY?

funny enough.. I do have a story in which I got the better of an arcade owned by the brother.

I played cashino500 and had 4 picks. pressing the 3rd pick it was revealed as £150, but the touch screen was not aligned and it hit £90 I think on the far left. I complained and was told to ring back in the morning when the owner could look at the machine.

Not to my surprise by after speaking to the so called owner I was informed that a technician had to calibrate the screen to verify my story. (what bollocks)

The owner said he was unable to verify each way my story but said he would be prepared to meet me half way and pay me £75. On the basis it already paid me £90 I snapped up his offer and took a further £75.

twat :)

Pontins - f*** me what a shit-hole.  People actually go on 'holiday' there.  I reckon the carpet in the arcade is 25 years old and has never been cleaned.  f*****g awful place.  If you're not staying on-site you have to pay £3 to get in as a day-tripper.

Carefree Amusements opposite is a nice place but the owner is an absolute shitbag.  I got banned from there 17 years ago for making a few quid on a JPM Hagar which had a flat battery, and I'm still banned today.

In Burnham the Pavillion is on its arse - they are going to be focusing less on fruits and more on catering in the future I think.

Sun Spot Amusements got taken over by Cashino a few years back and is still going strong,  The cafe on the left has gone though which is a shame.  Only been there once in the last few years.

Mmm, yes Steve, I do see your point.

Put it this way, it wasn't really my decision to go if I were to make it, but no you are absolutely right.

I made a visit to Riverside Amusements in Looe today which in all honestly was ok when I last visited it last year.

My god, how it has gone downhill and what a shithole.

The downstairs bit has about 10 machines which are either off and just sitting there and bloody freezing cold.

Upstairs some of the buttons aren't working on their machines, the 500 section greets you with about 6 bingo machines that are all in a corner and off with

a load of clatter everywhere.

And to make matters worse I took £33 out of a £500 machine and it went empty after £13!

Then I went onto another one and same happened, so I asked what was going on..........

Oh, we have been having a bad week so not filling them up at the moment!

f*** me, I know things are desperate but filling up £500 machines with £20-£25 at a time is a joke!

And then what made me laugh more than anything was there was a couple playing near me on a Golden Game and a win came in, didn't register,

called the manager and refused to pay it!

I then finally go and play a Golden Charms on triple 7 before thinking 'I'm getting out of here'

Hit transfer and the button falls on the floor! LOL LOL LOL

I know things are getting bad, but I have never seen a place go from decent to utterly poor in a space of 1 year.
