bummer been using winamp for about 10 years, I supposed theres not much more they could add to it now though.

Not sure if there is any truth in this, but it's possible Microsoft are somewhat interested in buying what remains of Nullsoft from AOL, and this includes Winamp and Shoutcast.
Thinking about it and seeing what MS did with Skype, it could be a wise move by MS to move away from products linked in to their operating systems.

just read through the site re:closure and it says that given every pc is not shipped with a media player - whats the big fuss then?
if i downloaded the latest pro version off iptorrents, what will it do that media player and videoLAN cannot ?
