Please help. I have purchased a spice is right fruit machine and am having some problems getting it to work. On opening there are six lights 4 are green one is off and one is flashing 5 times red and 1 green.  I have swapped over the game card mux board and main board but the error stays the same.  Can anyone help me or tell me if there is a main reset switch.  Having seen other posts on here some people say there is a small reset switch but I have been unable to locate it.

5 red and 1 green is mux unit missing according to the manual.

Have you connected it up properly? Check both connectors at either end of wires.

If they are connected properly and not out by a pin etc, try a continuity test on the wires to make sure none are broken, also is thereplacement mux board a known working one?

the mux board came out of my working Austin Powers machine and when the mux board from spice is right is in Austin Powers it works ok. There is nothing wrong with the pin connections they are all lined up and connected properly. Is there a main reset button that I could try to reset the machine

If you mean to reset the ram, the easiest way is to change the %age or Stake/Prize setting afaik.

Make sure you know what the setting are before changing anything if you have adjustable keys in the machine.

no I don't want to reset the stake I want to reset the whole machine as it isn't working. There is power to it but no lights and the reels don't move. Just an alarm that continues to go off. It states check it out and that is the only noise there is

what chasnbons means is to reset a machine (i.e RAM reset) then changing the stake/prize will do this. You can simply put it back again afterwards. That may clear the error if it has been fixed.

Is there another board connected in there? My MPU5 machines have another small board attatched to the side. This one:

Check that is wired correctly? Almost seems as if there is nothing connecting the mainboard to the MUX or the reels? Just a shot in the dark really.

The reels are energised whenever the power is on. They should move tho if you use your hands. They shouldn't be totally stiff tho. But they won't freely move like when the power is off. Have you checked the fuses with a multimeter. There are 2 in the reel board and 2 in the mux board. Also several in the power supply. Check them all for continuity as you can't always tell just by looking.

Do you have a multimeter? That's about the easiest way. Put a probe each end of the fuse and if it gives a reading it's live, if it does nothing, it's dead.

Try cleaning the opto sensors on the hopper.

As you have more than one mpu5 machine try this.

Move your program card from Spice is right over to another machine and try and boot up - Does the fault move to the other machine - If so i thing maybe you boot chip or software has issues.

Doing a ram clear on a mpu5 is not really needed - I would say as you have 2/3 mpu5 machines at your place it should be quick and easy to chop and change parts until you find the issue.

Hi there thankyou for all your help today.  Still trying to get spice is right up and running. We noticed that the long thin board behind the reels which connects the reels to the power supply has a tiny brown bean shape solder which has melted / burnt. Also the fuse next to it has blown.  Is this the reason prior to our earlier messages why the machine reels and lights wont fire up in any way.

What is the name of this board is it the MPU4 board and if so has anyone got one available for a barcrest machine to buy (spice is right) also needed are the fuses for the boards six we think.

We think that this maybe the answer but we are amateur at this so are looking to you guys the experts for help.....

looking forward to hearing from you all with any suggestions and please keep us posted with any information you think may help.

If you need any further information please read our previous posts.... :err:

Bye for now

That board is simply a MPU5 reel driver board. One fuse is for reel lamps, and the other I believe is for them to spin. Hopefully someone will have a spare you can have. Wonder why it has blown though. Has the machine ever worked since you have owned it or did you buy it broken? The fuses are easily bought from ebay.

Hopefully that will sort your problem. But I do wonder whether it will sort your MUX problem or not.
