Hi guys,

My Impulse machine Spin On It is asking me to set the time and date when I turn it on now. This has only started happening today but it asks when it is turned on and also after I open any doors or use the refill key. I also sometimes get the on/off alarm code 48. Is this likely the battery needing replaced or something else? If it is the battery how difficult are they to change?

Cheers

Battery will need changing, if you are lucky it will not have leaked on the board and damaged it.

Solder iron, desolder pump, reel of solder and a new battery if there is no damage.

A new mpu if there is.

There is a green battery on one board and a black battery on a board on the side. Is it just the green that I should replace?

Yes, there is a little bit on the battery and the board. There also seems to be a black stain on the underside of the board under the battery.

I just replaced battery my board was a bit knackered as well, but all still worked fine (cleaned area with an old toothbrush), I extended it by wiring it off the board to try to prevent future leakage/damage to the board (see pic).

Nice one, I'll give that a go. Everything else seems to be working ok.

What type of wire did you use Richy?

Yes, there is a little bit on the battery and the board. There also seems to be a black stain on the underside of the board under the battery.

If you can remove the board from the machine, you will want to clean up the area around the battery on both sides of the board using normal household vinegar and an old toothbrush as this will neutralise the crap from the battery (you might notice it fizzes a little!), then rinse with warm water and dry as much as you can, then allow the board to dry fully before putting back into the machine (a day in a warm place - airing cupboard for example, or next to (but not on sat on top of) a radiator - probably not much use in the current weather though!

EPOCH MPUs are getting rarer due to the amount ruined by battery leakage, and it's a small step that will hopefully keep yours in working order.

You can run without a battery at all, it'll give the same errors as it does now (set time / date e.t.c.) when turned on, but if you do decide to replace the battery, connect it away from the board as has been done above.

Although I don't have it to hand, I use bell wire that I bought from Wilkinsons, it's cheap and works.
