We won't close it - yet ;)

However, please refrain from any personal abuse. It isn't needed and it isn't necessary. We can all have an opinion about a particular event and just because it varies from someone else's point of view doesn't make it any less valid, whether the point in question is the truth or not, if you believe in it.

Now let's get back to some kind of reality here because this thread has gone way off a tangent - I'm lost to be honest!

I think on this this one, we should all AGREE to disagree with each other, respect each others' opinions and leave it at that.

So, no 'padlock' yet - but be warned! :)

1 ok i meant the victims were american

2 maybe that guy in woolwich was high ? if so it was ok ?

3 so you agree people would want revenge , oh and i meant america sorry about that was a little inebriated

4 personal attack as always  :radar:

and like i said its not an argument its a discussion with differing opinions , and we all know if you loose a discussion or put another way make a **** of yourself you ask for the thread to be closed  :goofy:

1. I just don't get how you managed to get from me mentioning an American soldier as the attacker to American victims of the Boston bombings (of which one was actually Chinese).  I have read the thread a number of times and I still don't get it.

2. Do you know whether Michael Adebolajo or Michael Adebowale were high when they beheaded a British soldier on the streets of Britain?  Your hypothetical is meaningless.  The American soldier WAS high on drugs and alcohol when he attacked that Afghan village.

3. Revenge is a human trait.  I am sure it is an emotion you experience too.  As to informing us you were drunk when posting; it was a little obvious.

You come across as a bit of a twat really.

I would have avoided a bit

valid point from all parties. not my thread but could I ask this discussion to be closed? otherwise it will go round and round with no victor.

A US soldier accused of killing 16 Afghan civilians in two rampages last year will plead guilty to avoid the death penalty, his lawyers say.

Staff Sgt Robert Bales will make the plea in a hearing on 5 June.

He left a US outpost in Kandahar province in the early hours of 11 March 2012, attacking two villages nearby. Most victims were women and children.

Family members of those killed told the Associated Press news agency they were outraged he might not die.

"For this one thing, we would kill 100 American soldiers," said Mohammed Wazir, who had 11 family members killed, including his mother and two-year-old daughter.

"A prison sentence doesn't mean anything," Said Jan, whose wife and three other relatives died in the massacre, told AP. "I know we have no power now. But I will become stronger, and if he does not hang, I will have my revenge."

Defence lawyer John Henry Browne: "He's very relieved that the death penalty is not on the table"

Sgt Bales's lawyers say he is contrite about the killings, but would not discuss the details of what the soldier plans to say to the judge at the hearing.

Lawyer John Henry Browne described Sgt Bales as "crazed" and "broken" on the night of the attack.

The judge, as well as the commander of Joint Base Lewis-McChord, where Sgt Bales is being tried, must approve any plea deal. A military jury would then decide if a life prison term for Sgt Bales would include the possibility of parole.

At the time of the attack, Bales was serving his fourth tour of duty and had been drinking alcohol and snorting Valium.

In addition to the 16 murdered, six Afghans were injured.

Seventeen victims were women or children, and many of them were shot in the head. Some of the bodies were piled up and burned.

Sgt Bales' defence team said they had determined the soldier would not be able to prove any claim of insanity or diminished capacity.

While prosecutors originally said they would seek the death penalty, no US service member has been executed in more than 50 years.

Disgusting imo and what's worst is i didn't see anything on the news about this , just shows how biased the paparazzi is

what has this got to do with you?

its amazing how different peoples responses are from 1 guy dying and 16 people dying (i thought as much) the point im trying to make if this story was vice versa "iraq kills 16 british women and kids" i doubt you'd be saying "but he was DRUNK"

and as for you saying the soldier was high , how do you know ? you were there at the time , this is my point you're already making excuses for him ,a person who kills kids and women cause he got pissed , ffs man are you serious

there is no excuses for cold blooded murder and he should face the death penalty like others do for simply selling drugs in the usa .

what has this got to do with you?

what has anything got to do with anyone ?

but it has to do with me because im a human being like them imagine it was your mum and her kids .

Do you know....I've just read through this thread and I feel I need to put my point across.

Firstly, those so called "terroirsts" should rot....damn well rot in hell for what they did to that soldier in London, made me sick it did, so much so that I couldn't even begin to watch any footage of it because that's what they want.  The same way that any murderer should be taken to task.  Let's hope they both live long enough to have the c**p beaten out of them in prison.

Secondly, we are too much of an interfering country in other's affairs, too quick to back America in whatever the crisis is this year.  We had no right to go into Afghanistan backing the US, but we did and now we are suffering the consequences at home.  What next?  Do we go into North Korea because they are sabre rattling?  Like hell we will.

Now for the crux of the matter.  Religion is evil and is just an excuse used to murder people by some insane nations.  Someone said to me the other day that the British Soldier deserved it because he was wearing a shirt that was pro-British.  WTF would you expect to see in a British street?  God help us if we ever feel the need to celebrate our national pride.  The same person said to me when the anger was apparent that not all muslims / islams are the same.  While this is true can you imagine the reaction in Iraq/Iran if we tried to build a church in their country?  I don't think it would last long do you?  Would they campaign to have it closed down do you think?  No....They would bomb it, burn it straightaway and probably kill anyone who was deemed to be non-islamic.  That's the difference in our socities.

Finally, things are way out of control in OUR country.  We should stay out of others and mind our own affairs.  We are at war basically...Can you imagine if during WW2 Coventry was getting bombed and someone said "Oh...it's terrible...but some of those Germans must be quite nice really".  Can you seriously imagine that?  Fight fire with fire...and my opening gambit would be to make anyone who has settled here since the 70's when they could sneak in undetected from the Middle East. re-apply for their right to stay in the UK.  Anyone who has nothing to hide will have nothing to fear.  I could go on but I won't.  I am not a racist but when there is a war on, then surely we need to treat it as such.
