Are AWPs more of a problem than FOBTs

I was in the boozer today and started playing the DOND Go all the way clone, Cash Ahoy. After about £20 in it offered me £28 or a gamble of £2 vs £70 which I duly lost. Assuming this meant it was happy I chased a JP and in under an hour had done over £100 in it without getting the jackpot even offered as a final box gamble. This is a ridiculously expensive habit and the industry no longer used the term AWP, preferring Category C so that when people complain about the lack of amusement they can be ignored.

But is this really right - should pub fruits be a bit of fun like AWPs used to be or should pubs be casinos? I know FOBTs are described as the crack cocaine of slot machine gambling, but the speed at which Cat C machines eat your money these days is astonishing.

I found the below article on the BFM web site recently, not sure what it means by 'unintended restrictions' re cashpots - can anyone opine?

New Category C Gaming Machine Technical Standards

New technical standards came into effect on 8th November for Cat C gamingmachines.

These changes affect three main areas on machines:

-Speed of Play: Changes in speed of play have been approved, with game speed being linked to stake.

-Cashpots: A technical fix has been announced to remove an unintended restriction on the use of pots on Cat C machines.

-Game links: Cat C games may incorporate 100% holdover on non-winning games so that any features and bonuses built up can be carried forward.

Fortunately for me there is a happy PS...

On the last tenner I had in my pocket it offered me £49 or a gamble of £50 vs CASHPOT of £45, which I took. Then after collecting that it said 'invincible next feature', so I played another three or four quid for the board, stopped it on feature shot for the Cash Ahoy mega streak that went for £140. So less than five minutes after being £100 down I was nearly £100 up. Ridiculous!

ive seen quite a few reoccuring themes now that make machines `player proof`. if you for the said machine you will just lose lose lose, however.. lets say you forced for £200 in and then switched to take what you can, you will be surprised to see features galore over then next 20-40quid in making up well over 100 back.

They haven't really been "AWPS" since about 1996, more like "RIPOFFWP".

Give me £6 in tokens any day lol ( and I don't mean the bloke lol).
