Hi Steve

I might purchase, but I just want to know the issues about when you format the computer, and you go to put the fruit machine on that has been purchased again, you cannot use the key that you originally were given. I did send a query in about this with the one I had, but was told, I am sure in the reply, that once formatted, the key wasn't valid... something to those lines.

I would love to purchase a lot more of your games mate, but if this is part of the purchasing, then it does put me off, because I don't want to have to keep purchasing codes for the games I buy, whenever I format my computer mate.

If this issue has been resolved, or what I have said isn't the case, and I have misinterpreted the answer I received, then I will definitely go ahead and buy some products from Reels of Fun, but if what I have said is the case, then it would be a dear dab every time I format my Windows computers to put the games back on. It has been one reason why I haven't purchased from ROF.

Let me know mate please... I hope I have got the wrong end of the stick on this. :)

Hi, Daryl,
If the code system was another way or we gave out codes free forever after purchase, it would just get abused like it did before when we was getting recode requests every week! ( eg code sharing ) Some people were requesting 1 -10 codes in a few weeks, which we found totally unacceptable, and blatent abuse.

Unfortuneately like most of this type of online software, due to how licence works, it is a one use licence that is valid for one PC. The draw back to this is that if you frequently format your PC then its not a good system. However paid members do get a much better provision for this and get additional licences at a huge discount or often totally free, depending on member status, and purchase history.

We are looking at other ways to make it fairer for genuine customers, but it is a system that can always be open to abuse that way.

If you think you have a good solution that benefits the customer and protects our games still then im open to your suggestions.

could you not "call home" on startup and (the way i would do it) update a sql db with example "serial", "last used" and "times_activated" etc that way you could see when a serial was last used and how many times etc

im sure you have thought of that kind of thing but thought illd post it up anyway

edit: with "last_used" im talking about when the sim was last played

How about when you email the activation code, you put in also a separate 'reference code'?

Then, if you reinstall Windows, and want to put a ROF simulation back onto your computer, and you need an activation code again, then quote the 'reference code' that the original activation code email came with, and you could then validate that reference code email and send a new one... that way you will know that it is the original member, ie email address with the reference code, and proof of purchase of the product in the first place - I hope you can understand that mate? ;)

You see, I am a little prone to making mistakes just now, especially when I am on Windows (Mac has Time Machine). If and when I do a format, I would like to use products I had purchased.

Just a suggestion mate... sorry if it has been considered.
