hi everyone
I am a proud owner of Barcrests' Rainbow Riches £500 jackpot (B3 category machine)
But I would like to back up the hard drive in case of problems later in life and want to know what the best method of doing this would be please (whether it's connecting a USB device or just trying to get to the HD in the machine), or if it is possible to obtain an image from anybody that has got a similar machine.
Also I would like to obtain a B3 manual please as the one on MPU Mecca contains the MPU5 technical manual.
Hoping you can help !!
regards
J

the machine really wasnt designed for that, but.. you can open the main door and open the frame for the top monitor and you`ll me able to go about unscrewing the whole chassis to get inside the pc. simplying remove the HD (you`ll invalidate the warranty but they dont support this machine anyway now) and quite litterally strap in to your main PC.
use ay type of cloning software like acronis true image or paragon image software to make a clone of the drive and simply put the drive back. the USB stick is only for adding extra games - such as found on the repro.
all said and done, you really dont need to image the HD at all.

if we have an image on the repro there is no point making one, but in my experience the hitachi hdd some units were supplied with are a bit flakey. i backed up the elvis i had just in time as sometimes a hdd will get very slow before it dies.
if you are goung to back up the drive you will need a drive of the same size or larger, and i reccomend using mirray hdclone booting either from a usb or cd in any pc with the drive you are cloning and the new drive only attached.

hi folks
I successfully made the backup from the hard drive (yes it was a deathstar!), but now when I start up the fruit machine, the note acceptor does not even work (the led's on the unit don't even light up)
does anyone know how to re-enable the note acceptor (it used to whirr on startup, but doesn't even do that now). perhaps it's something in the startup sequence that may have become disabled, but not sure.

NOTE ACCEPTOR now working again !!!!
uncoupled the wires from the MPU5 board and reconnected, and all is good - must be a dodgy wire, and I must have dislodged it when taking out the HD.
All is good - phew !!!
