So, at the moment there are :

PDX - Pseudo DX
HDX - Hybrid DX
WDX - Windowed DX
FSDX - Full Screen DX..

...and heres what I am going to do with my next layout. Before people start screaming that its too small, it may be increased [its currently around the 600x600 pix mark, so it will look ok on an 800x600 display.

My theory is - why have the whole of windows taken up by a fruit machine? I know I love them to bits, but I also like to have loads of things on screen at once. Also, with a machine such as All Cash Advance, there is no need for huge artwork. Same applies to most granny machines, although I accept that on most Hi Techs you wouldn't be able to read the text so they can be left as is.

What do people think? This is just how the artwork will look, this is a resized pic of the almost finished art taken in PS. Let me know what you think, be it good or bad :)

EDIT ] It'll have button play as well when finished at the bottom, with the buttons being nice and close it should be easier to use :)

EDIT2] The M would stand for Micro, Mini or something else meaning little :)

I think you are on to a winner, it looks like most layout designers are trying for higher res designs like the 1600 release of diamond geezer. Thinking smaller is a brainwave, you could say you are a layout designer ahead of your time ;)

Lol, I wouldn't go THAT far :)

Anyway, I just noticed when I resized the art down to 33% that it was more than adequate for a layout :)

I'm just going to see how it looks on an 800x600 display.

:o

I didn't give a release date, and I seem to remember saying 'towards the end of this week' - or was that last week?!

why do you not just design it in 800x600 and call it an 800X600 dx?

i don't see the point in coming up with new acronyms for layouts, if it plays on a 800 monitor then its an 800 layout. there is no need to call it an mdx.

800 full screen DXs were where it started on the DX side. Some of them look awful now, but were good for where the scene was at the time. A full screen DX is still instantly playable and easier, I would suggest, on the eyes at times than the current round of *really* dark WDXs

f*** that................wait till i start releasing 2048 shit....all my future releases will be at that res....i know that emulation is all about retro...but people have the technology to be able to run all these machines at home and for free...i want to get as near to actual size as the emu will allow me...jesus i cant play my mame on a 14" portable it needs 28" to do it justice...same goes for layouts IMHO....until i have a fruit machine or 2 in every room in my house im going to try and push the boundaries of bad taste and sheer over indulgance as far as i can...and as long as people find them mildly interesting i shall try to push even higher...plus i have stocks in samsung and LG....

many people bitched about 1600 res but they still downloaded them, and as the cost of crt's are dropping and nearly everyone i have ever met and had a pc gets caught up in go faster stripes.....i stopped playing the fruities because i got a pc and wanted to upgrade it....so one addiction died and another began....(f***ed if i can walk past pc world without taking a peek).....and then i discovered Mfme and jpemu and an addiction became a hobby....a hobby that i could share with like minded people. so even if only one person likes a single layout then i feel it was worthwhile...
