Ok, I'm sure some of you knowledgeable people will know the answer to this.
When I was playing crash bang wallop the other day, I put about 7quid in, each pound you could hear 'dropping' to the bottom, hitting other coins. After getting a bit of play, I put all the profit back plus the origional 7quid. I then put another 3 quid in and low and behold, I could not hear any coins 'dropping' to the bottom.
Now one of my mates has said to me that when you hear the coins drop it is a good sign as it means the tubes are full thus you have more chance of a payout/jp but I don't really see how that can follow in this case as the coins weren't dropping when the machine had MORE money put into it.
Or am I just barking up the wrong tree totally? ;-)
Your thoughts please......?

Okay, for a start, machines don't use tubes anymore....unless they are club machines.
Pub machines pay out from a hopper of £125 [£250 with a note acceptor to cover change [£1] given out when a note is inserted].
When the hopper is full, i.e, contains £125, £1 coins will fall into a cashbox at the bottom of the machine. ANY other coins [5p, 10p, 20p, 50p and £2] will ALWAYS fall into a seperate cashbox. If the machine is taking £1 'around the back', or 'backing' as I know it, it means the hopper is full -
It does NOT mean that the machine will pay out [You should never assume it means that - I know many pubs that are told by the supplier to 'top up' the hopper with £1 coins from the cashbox every night - so while the £1 coins will drop to the bottom, the machine may have just paid out LOADS]
There you have it, £1 coins dropping to the bottom means that the hopper is full, not necessarily that the machine will payout. It can normally be worked out from the machines on your gambling round though, for example, when Red Gaming machines I used to play [Red X mainly] were backing, I found that forcing for the £25 but taking the £10 just before would normally give £44 out for £20 in. Did that on about 3 consecutive occasions.
Of course, the flip side of the coin is that while a machine is backing, it would appear to me that some machines [mainly BellFruits and Impulse] will take as much around the back as possible before a payout. This has been know to be around the £100 mark, although they have also been known to empty themselves afterwards.
Basically, if it is playing well, regardless of whether or not it is backing, its worth sticking on.
Mind you, I don't play them anymore so I could be wrong

Also some machines "false back".....some of the newer machines are known to drop coins over the back at set times to "fool you" into believeing it is ready to pay out.....which i presume is was this machine was doing if it then continued to fill the hopper...
Some Machines are evil barstards....but then we already knew that didn't we.....

Cyberpunk:- alienated loner who lives on the edge of society in generally dystopic future where daily life is impacted by rapid technological change, an ubiquitous datasphere of computerized information, and invasive modification of the human body.....Hmmmmm

Ah, Red Gaming machines such as Thats Magic and Fruits U Sir will do this, normally taking EXACTLY £5 around the back. They will only do this though if the hopper is already full to a certain amount, say £100 rather than £125.
