Hi,
Yes they will work - you usually find that x8 DVD drives write at different speeds depending on the format (DVD-R / DVD+R) - typically +R is faster than -R.
It's a minefield with all the formats of drives / media.
DVD-R I find, tends to be fine for 'backups' of movies and x-box games.

I found that DVD+R was best for burning DVD video backups/images, but theres so much conflicting opinion out there, just try both
Just checking, it is a multi-format DVD burner you have?
Anyway, I normally find that when burning to DVDs, even though it claims 4x it normally hits more like 1.7x. I think the reason for +R stability when I burn vids is that my burner can handle 8x +R, so burning at +4 will be more stable - for the same reason as why I find burning Audio CDs at 52x makes em skip like hell

Well heres the link to the one ive just bought:
http://cgi.ebay.co.u...me=STRK:MEWN:IT
It will be here tomorrow , as its sent through a next day deliver courier company.
I already have a cd rw drive built in, but I wanted one to burn movies, and to watch them. £73 aint a bad price I dont think.
Great service from the seller too.

Yeah, internal drives are around £40, but then you have to buy the housing which is about £30 for them, unless you add it into an extra drive dock, which I dont know how to do.

 shame it's not multi format then u have a choice..say if u lend a disc to a mate it might work on your player but not on his..hence thr +/ - format..there r multi formats out there for around £60 quid....Don't mean to rub it in mate as you've already bought it

And it uses Sonic Recordnow software i believe.

LOL, whoever said that was a c**t.
Anyway, the best software is free

DVDDecryptor for burning images, IMGtool for making images from DVD VOB files, DVDShrink if you want to strip extras and stuff to make a film fit on CD.
Only legitimate ones mind

Ah, but is that an external USB2 one RB?
EDIT] I have to admit, I would NEVER buy a DVD drive on eBay. Main reason being that I pay £8 for unlimited weight next day courier, or a max of say £4.50 for 2 day upto about 80kg delivery.
I can't believe the amount of eBayers that charge £10 delivery on drives, and then send them by Standard Parcels service at a cost of £2.
Mind you, I have 100% feedback and everyone loves me so thats not a problem
