Another vote for imgburn in this case.

Small, simple to run, free..... if it's just image files like .iso or bin / cue files, this is all you need.

Wierd..i didnt think there was any restrictions on that imgburn program..ie it will only let you burn iso's of a certain size..im pretty sure there arent.

A 4.5gb file should fit on to a DVD no probs.

Its not Imgburn thats restricting you its the media(discs), 4.5gb will not fit on standard dvd disc, 4.3gb is around the max size for standard dvd, it should burn fine on a dual layer disc though.
What shall i put here?

Yep....

Basically anything above 4.4GB on a DVD, and you will struggle, due to the compression and dvd file formats, unless you are using dual layered media, but they are not as cheap as bog standard DVD's.

You could use the overburn function in say like Nero, but it's risky, and something I'd not want to do, if I can do things another way.

It's like when you format a hard drive..... though it may say 80 gig, you will never be able to put 80 gig's worth of files on it, as the file tables take up a certain percentage.

I see..thanks for clearing that up for me..i just always assumed 4.7gb meant 4.7gb worth of data could go on it..although ive never burned anything above 2gb or so probably.

Spose its like Stan says..when you buy a new PC as well it might say its a 1TB harddrive..but when you check it its actually only 994.33gb or summat.
