Is there a quick way to work out a chr for a machine?

I have tried some roms that Dave has kindly dumped, but keep getting invalid chr alarm in the actual layout.

The game is Barcrest Cash Attack (Barcrest MPU4)

The quick answer...no.

Only the £10/15 versions of this have been emulated, so you'll need to figure out the CHR numbers for the £8 version. Plus once that is done, you'll need to sort out where the lamps go from scratch, so it's effectively doing the layout again. The £15/10 version use the same CHR because they use the exact same lamp setup on the real machine. The £8 version uses less lamps on the decals probably, so that's why you're getting an invalid CHR message on the existing layouts.

But even when I load this rom into a blank layout I get Bad Chr Alarm, how can I get it passed this stage so I can try and work out the chr?

Go into the 'Character Editor', delete the character, and restart (CTRL+R). If it still says the character is bad, you might have problems. Let me have a look at the rom, and I'll get back to you.

EDITED TO ADD: Just had a look at it, and you can't do the character the normal way. It needs to be done like Volcano, or Red Hot Fever. Guitar is the only guy who can do that I think. Is the rom the BWB version?

Just checked the actual rom and it seems to be some sort of hack... It says in the hex editor...

REO PRODUCTS PROUDLY PRESENT CASH ATTACK... Never heard of these, it seems its a whitbread version too..

There is one other problem, when the bank fills to payout it comes up with HOP COINSENS ERROR, anyone know if this is fixable?
