I downloaded the latest version of Linux, called KDE Linux 2010 OS (click it for the link!), which I installed easy enough, running from the Live CD it gives you, which enables you to try it before you install it without making any alterations to your computer's files. (Note: you cannot run Fruit Machine Emulation when you are only using the Live CD of Linux - it has to be installed).
It the Package Manager within the Linux OS (on your bottom panel on the Desktop) if you search it, you will find a program called WINE, this enables a virtual Windows (whatever system you wish to choose) to run on your Linux system, and through this WINE program I have managed to get MFME (all versions) to work.
My fan on my computer hasn't had to kick in once since I have used the Linux 2010 OS, and I have got excellent graphics and sounds on it too, plus there is an 'Aero' theme that allows you to have certain feeling of Windows Vista and Windows 7 combined, without using all those resources.
On the WINE emulator I have also been able to get quite a few of my games working (although there are hundreds of games you can install free with the Linux Package Manager) and also my MS Office 2000 works perfectly well on there too!
All-in-all I am very pleased with the way my Linux OS is running - my computer is running as smooth as a miner's bum with no issues at all.
Give it a try! There is a step-by-step guide on how to install Linux on your computer on the desktop of the Live CD - see how brilliant it works! Excellent!
