hi guys,
i have noticed that there is a noise from my machine, if everything is quiet then it is loud, like a loud hum or buzz, i opened the machine when powered on and the noise seemed to be coming from the top wheel, for example you have the three at the bottom and then the top one that displays numbers, its the one that displays the numbers, i opened the machine and when i moved the wheel the noise got worse so i know thats the problem! my question is, is this normal or is something wrong? if so , how can i fix this??
thanks

Hi,
thanks for the reply, it's sounds electrical, if you open machine and don't touch anything then there is a noise like a hum or buzz which is loud from top reel, if you move it just a touch then it gets louder, if you still say it needs a clean then do I just strip down the top reel? Do I clean connections and so on?
Thanks for the help!

Not that i know nothing of machines but im sure all machines make an electrical hum to a certain extent..its just not as extenuated in a pub or arcade over the rest of the noise.
Im sure Cardie had a similar problem with his machine..not sure how he sorted it though.

It may indeed need a clean but as todd says they all mostly do this,as for on how to clean it your best off waiting for an answer from baz or the other techs as i only have a linited knowlage of the machines mate.Hi,

Thanks guys! I did think this might be normal for these machines and had thought just like the post says that in pubs and arcades you would never hear it, be nice to know how to service the machine though if anyone could help with that please.
Cheers!

If it's one of those flexi-reels then they tend to be noisy buggers. Check out Bellfruit Tubular Bells or JPM Quantum Leap for examples of this type of reel. They shouldn't be deafeningly loud though.
Your machine's manual will take you through how to clean and service the various components. If you don't have a manual, you may find one online or from somebody on here.

Nah I had a squeak on the reel belt, it was just the plastic not the motor. Not that i know nothing of machines but im sure all machines make an electrical hum to a certain extent..its just not as extenuated in a pub or arcade over the rest of the noise.

Depending on the age of the machine the reel might be on its way out, all machines reels (especially the old start point ones) make a loud hum as the reels have a high pulse rate to keep them still on steady. Make sure nothing is pushing on the reel and that it moves freely, moving the reel while the machine is on is a bad idea.

it is loud and sounds like an electrical hum and its 100% comming from the top reel, i wasnt sure if it was maybe the motor? as when i touch the reel and move it slighty the noise gets worse, the noise will go away for a split second when the reel spins if this helps anyone.
if it is the reel then how easy are these to change, i seen a website today selling spare reels for about £12.99 but wasnt sure if that included the motor as it didnt say?
also i read the manual that someone gave me on here which was a big big help for another topic but doesnt say anythin g about cleaning the machine? oh the machine is red gaming, sub zero
thanks

a standard way to maybe clear it is relating to a technical issue i got through as a former music producer/engineer
often there could be a buzzing type sound which is could well be electrical interference/dust... the best thing to do could be pulling out the audio cable, blowing it down n making sure its put in tightly

hi guys
thanks for the replys, first thing i thought of was noise from the speaker but when i opened machine it was obvious it was the top reel but i did unplug speaker and noise was there, what cardie says makes sense and does make me think even more now that it is the motor since when it spins the noise stops but when not in motion it hums very loud and pretty sure its the motor making the noise.
i dont really know where to get spares for these but on the reel it says Barcrest part no RE227244

is this what i want?? its from this site

These are the new Gamesman Reels. Maybe someone on this site will help you try and get one as I can only recommend ebay lol. There fairly new and if its making a dodgey noise then I would say theres a problem as there usually very quiet.

I would just say the noise is normal. You don't tend to notice it in a noisy arcade but it comes apparent at home because there's nothing else about. The reels tend to make sure they stay in the right position and if you try tapping it the other way, itll make a louder hum just to say like no no no I'm not moving!
They make noises from the reels, the power supply unit and the speaker has a buzz in it as well. I wouldn't worry about it that much

You could well be correct it's just that I used to work in a pub many years ago! And I would switch on the machines in the morning with no background music etc and I know they can make a buzz but this is just loud, for example the machine is in my cupboard and if I switch it on and walk out into another room I can hear it and it's damn annoying when playing it! I think since the reels are cheap I will replace and see what happens

I was gonna suggest the noise is normal myself to be honest. The reels on one of my machines is noisy as hell. They are electromagnets after all.
I asked the very same question when I got my first machine (barcrest) The reels, power supply and coin mech all buzzed to some degree. Pedro you'd have to change the reel band as well and they can get brittle if old and snap. I'd say if it's working ok and the noise isn't excessive or the motor is obviously faulty, I'd leave well be.
