i have a laptop with a cd writer the thing is lately when i try to copy a cd or make a cd from files on my pc data music ect. i get power calibration error can anyone tell me what this means and if i can fix it ?

I think but im not sure but i think that the writer has broken what make is your laptop?

Power calibration means the write side of the cdwriter head has died...No fix...new unit only....

Ive got a Toshiba Satellite A30-514 had no problems with it anyway here is a number you can contact them with 0870 444 8944 it still might be under warranty. Hope this can help you

It's possible your writer just doesn't like the media you're using. Try a different brand and see if that helps. I had the same thing when I was using cheap blanks.

well the thing is my cd rom and dvd player work fine its a combo drive

the read heads for dvd and cdrom are usually ok but the write side uses a diffrent colour laser which is more apt to burn out so it tends to read discs but not write.....
